The Cryo discourse is interesting. I see a lane where Bungie can bend on the RNG for Compiler access, allow solos, maybe do some balancing for grenade/bubble spam etc, but ultimately I think the brutality and risk/reward is special and should be preserved as much as they can.

@SycKnight Only way you can truly hang onto something is to never use it. At that point, what the point of even having it.

PSA Marathon is not a looter shooter. Be ready to kiss that loot goodbye. 😅

@sc0nesandc0ffee Yea that's a strat. There's way more paranoia when you're on the map in this game from what I see. With spawn knowledge people can decide they'll just hit spawns to clear people out so they can do objectives. I personally don't because I'm trying to avoid pvp unless necessary 😅

I played DMZ back during CoD MWII and of course a TON of ARC Raiders (which is ‘weird’ compared to most extraction shooters, I’ve been told). While there was PvP in both, I felt like there was more focus on quests/POI explorations. If you saw people, you engaged of course but that wasn’t the focus. Marathon feels more like people are hunting one another (a la Fortnite as my only experience with a BR) and THEN maybe a contract.

@sc0nesandc0ffee I don't have any experience with other extractions to compare but Marathon's pace especially on endgame maps definitely feels chaotic and like a fight to the last Shells standing.

@SycKnight It’s not even an extraction shooter anymore. It feels fully like a BR now.

@Vtnova @SycKnight @MarathonTheGame I get why we can’t but I’d love to be able to just solo load into the map like you can in CoD to just explore. Like no quests or loot. Just free roam.

Bungie shipped Marathon despite layoffs, chaos, and everyone predicting failure. They dug in and made it happen. That grit earned my respect. Full take: youtube.com/watch?v=z6mJfp…

@ladygreen83 @MarathonTheGame The weekly cadence for this and Ranked seems similar to Trials, but Cryo specifically sounds like a mini Destiny raid with PvP threats competing for exclusive loot.

@SycKnight @MarathonTheGame So is this really the equivalent to Destiny trials? Or is this just a higher ranking looting extravaganza and hope you make it out alive with your plunder?

@MexPlays__ It's easier for teams who want to avoid pvp to stay invisible imo. I also am unsure of team count in the duo format that might impact that as well.

@MexPlays__ For us day 1 we played 7 games and the first 2 were completely silent no gunshots. The more we played we found more pvp. At the end it was 2+ fights/gm. Yesterday was mayhem lol. We found a 2+ fights/gm in 5 gms. It varies for sure as players build tendencies in this new format.

Gave it an honest shot and not a fan of duos. Maybe Perimeter wasn’t the best sample size but in 4 runs we only ran into 2 teams and we were actively trying to find engagements. It would probably play better on a tighter map like Outpost.
Ziegler@Ziegler_Dev

Alright everyone we're going a bit rogue here. We have a bit of an experimental feature that's in development we want to test and we'd love for you to help. As of Wednesday morning 3/18 at 10am PT, we'll be enabling a limited time duos queue on Perimeter only to test how the game plays with crews of 2 at a wider scale. Important things to note: -- It will be on Perimeter only for now. -- The test will last about 2 weeks (but we might cut it off early or elongate it depending on what's going on). -- You can only enter duos with a premade group of you and another friend. (no matchmaking solo into duos). -- You will be matched with other duos only. -- You can select "Perimeter - Duo" from the zone select screen to access it. (not the final intended ux flow right now) -- Some things will be a bit jank. Just a note: this is a bit of an experimental feature so we expect to learn some things along the way and make changes to future versions of this. This likely won't be the final implementation of how it would look and flow in the game, but for now it was easiest way for us to get it to you all to help us test. We're excited to run this experiment with you all. Pending what we learn, we're hoping to expand duos as a queue in the future and we wanted to take this first step sooner than later so we could understand how it affects our game better before investing a lot more time in fleshing out the feature. Additionally, this is unlikely to be the last experiment we run, so look forward to more as we continue to evolve Marathon. FOR SCIENCE!
