If this were the UK, all that would have been done is a 100k page planning application (not yet decided, only just filled) (On a serious note someone should look at the french legal framework for large infrastructure projects, much better than UK one)

After 5 years of renovation, Notre-Dame Cathedral reopens its doors on 8 December. More beautiful than ever thanks to a restoration project blending ancestral know-how & technology. A source of pride for France, a treasure for the world. 🇫🇷🌍 #rebatirnotredamedeparis #notredame

@TFelpersham @davidtorrance @yuanyi_z The oddity is that I'm not sure why the LC would need to be a silk. It's not like the AG who is supposed to "lead" the Bar and therefore needs to be a silk to be a member of the inner bar (etc).

@jameswmullen @davidtorrance @yuanyi_z I agree with you up to a point: I’ve come across several KCs who were very good when they took Silk but over time just let it all hang out and attempt to survive on assertion rather than analysis. I understand it’s quite a big issue at the tax bar.

@TFelpersham @yuanyi_z What actually is the convention for the LC? That if not already a KC upon appointment that they become so?

@yuanyi_z @davidtorrance It’s unmerited in the sense that they didn’t have to apply for it or provide evidence of their work or be interviewed. It’s given as a courtesy. It then creates an awkwardness on return to practice - I doubt Suella Braverman KC would be trusted with much more than a noting brief

Notice the high ceilings, the space, the large windows to let in light—absolutely vital features of a courtroom to lower the intensity of proceedings. I also recommend the thread for a nice painting of this room in use as a police court.
HistoryandHeritageYorkshire@GenealogyBeech

The Georgian courtroom of Beverley Guildhouse was re-modelled in 1762. The stucco plasterwork ceiling is by Swiss-Italian Giuseppe Cortese who had moved to Yorkshire. The courtroom was used for the Quarter Sessions until 1810. A new Sessions House opened at New Walk in 1814.

This is the scene (Jenrick speaking now) and this the photo of Louise Haigh that Streeting put on the screen behind him!

Wes Streeting jokes at Spectator Parliamentarian of the Year awards (paraphrasing): "There's been a spate of phone thefts around Westminster lately... so watch out for this person" And Louise Haigh is the photo behind him.

@PeteApps I fear that the different-coloured-ties problem represents a Government that’s been housetrained by the Civil Service to continue the status quo

So anyway, we'll still all be saying the same stuff we've been saying for years to a government with different coloured ties. Which is a familiar feeling in the country at the moment, I think

@msolwilliams Re: "overwhelming popular support", the polling seems to be quite patchy and records far lower support once you take away those who haven't confused "assisted dying" with general palliative or hospice care, or when "assisted suicide" is used instead of more euphemistic "dying"

Even if @kimleadbeater is right that her Bill has the safest safeguards in the world (she isn't and it doesn't), that doesn't mean they're strong enough. No jurisdiction has managed to prevent pressure and coercion.
