🆕 #Blog Scaling up crop insurance in Africa for climate resilience and agricultural transformation 🖊️ By @ruthvargashill and @BerberKramer. As climate change impacts intensify, African economies face increasing exposure to extreme weather events. Crop insurance and other types of risk transfer instruments are promising tools for farmers in low- and middle-income countries to secure their investments and manage income fluctuations. 🔗 Learn more: on.cgiar.org/4sI1PTa @CGIAR @IFPRIAfrica

Join us this Friday to discuss on African women’s economic power and commemorate International Women’s Day! 💡 “Give to Gain: Investing in African Women’s Economic Independence.” 🗓️ Friday, 06 Mar 2026 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM GMT+2 (online) Women are central to Africa’s economic future — whether as business owners, entrepreneurs, workers, farmers, or innovators. Across the continent, women are shaping markets, driving growth, and building resilient communities. Did you know? - Women make up roughly 58 % of Africa’s self-employed population, the highest share globally, and contribute about 13 % of the continent’s GDP through entrepreneurship and informal economic activity. - Sub-Saharan Africa leads the world in female entrepreneurial activity, with around 26–30 % of women engaged in business startups or enterprises — significantly higher than many other regions. -In countries like Mozambique and Tanzania, more than three-quarters of women participate in the workforce, showing how women are driving economic participation at scale. But barriers remain: Across the continent, women still face a significant gap in financial inclusion and economic parity, with barriers to formal employment, financing, and equal pay slowing progress. Although legal rights for women have improved in many countries, enforcement and access to financial resources are still lagging — a challenge underscored by recent global reports. That’s why this event matters. What’s on the agenda: 👉 Best practices unlocking women’s economic power from AUDA-NEPAD programmatic activities and across Africa — from access to finance, to scaling enterprises and championing innovation. 👉 Inspiring stories highlighting real impact — women and leaders transforming their communities 👉 Insights on financial resources opportunities — including pathways to funding, support programmes, and strategic partnerships. Women’s economic empowerment isn’t just a goal — it’s a strategic investment in Africa’s sustainable development. When women thrive economically, families flourish and communities prosper. Register now and be part of the conversation: zoom.us/webinar/regist… #GiveToGain #IWD2026 #InternationalWomensDay #Agenda2063 #AWEP

Africa’s green workforce challenge demands more than replication. It demands rigor. From 11–13 August 2026 in Nairobi, Jacob’s Ladder Africa will be hosting the Inaugural GreenWorks 4 Africa Forum, which will convene practitioners, policymakers, funders, workforce leaders, and enterprise builders from across the continent to interrogate assumptions, examine real-world case studies, and strengthen approaches that deliver results. It will be a one-of-a-kind, working forum where gaps are surfaced honestly, and collective expertise is applied to design solutions where current systems fall short. This is a Pan-African space for solution-oriented collaboration. Join Us. Partner With Us. Build With Us. 📹 #ICYMI: Key takeaways from #GHACOF72 opening remarks: 🗨️ “Climate services enable governments, communities, and the private sector to anticipate risks, plan ahead, and take early action. They support farmers to make informed farming decisions, pastoralists to manage grazing/pastures and mobility, health systems to anticipate disease outbreaks, energy planners to optimise generation, and disaster management agencies to take early actions to protect lives and livelihoods,” Dr. @Eng_F_Ngeno , Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Kenya
