@teachrobotslove And then you have writers who are simply human, looking for friends who share their obsessions. For some, everything besides genuine connection comes second, even posting engagement bait to stir up attention. 🤷

I became a writer because I liked writing. Many of us do. But if you become a writer you get exposed to the "writing community," which is not about producing good writing. It's about aggrandizing and perpetuating oneself, through the appearance and branding of *being a writer.* All of these classes, workshops, podcasts, fellowships, awards, conventions, parties, retreats, are an ecosystem designed to make more money and generate reputational clout. I mean, isn't that obvious? The writing is the vehicle for these rewards. In many ways the writing community renders the writing itself superfluous. All writers want attention for their work, so they often engage in this kind of thing, albeit often with reluctance and distaste - because they have to come to terms with the fact that they'll be rubbing elbows with sycophantic vampires. And this is why you have one class of people who can absolutely understand why a frazzled and grief stricken writer, who finally had time to write after 5 years, turned down an award that would take away too much time from her work. And you have another class who are angry at the fact this woman dared to spit in the face of Mammon, and consider it an insult to writers everywhere that she didn't drop everything to make it happen and get the money. I remember once sitting alone at a lake in the dark, and I realized I wanted to write words like the way nature hums so deeply in your body's connective tissue. I remember standing in the center of a storm watching a tornado form on the horizon and I stepped outside of my body, and I saw the storm as an infinite string of words being pulled out of the earth. A workshop can't teach you how to feel what the writing means. It doesn't matter how much money you pump into your writing *career*, no amount of money will provide to you what the heady quiet gives you for free.

And if you don’t know “someone” who can get him started on fulfilling his dream, well… you wouldn’t be a very good uncle and I know you are the best uncle.

@TMMackz Definitely not as a full time thing. However, one dream is to do music for A movie some day! A small one though.

My mom thinks and hopes that I can pivot into magically getting my foot in the door as a composer for big movies. This is based on after I’ve made roughly 10K a couple years in a row off very niche music (avant brutal/tech death and chiptune black metal).

@KennethMGRAY2 From a thousand miles away, he seems more like a Steve Martin, and I’ve never heard of Chevy Chase playing music. And he doesn’t strike me as being particularly short.
