@FalkTG Ernstgemeinte Frage: Was soll Merz machen?

@LittleBootsPro @GA_partisan @SandyofCthulhu So basically Johnston defended his theater against a superior enemy without needlessly bleeding his own army. I can see why this might not have been satisfactory to many of his fellow compatriots, but surely given what we now know about the slim prospects of the confederacy, 1/

Jeff Davis replaced generals he personally didn't like, and kept generals he personally liked. Lincoln would happily put a man in charge that hated him, if he thought he would do a good job. That's why Beauregarde, one of the best Confederate generals, languished in a coastal department. Beauregarde even wrote extensive letters to Davis about how to stop Grant out West - strategies that would probably have worked, but Davis's men on the ground couldn't implement them.

@GA_partisan @LittleBootsPro @isthisuneek Again, I haven't read much about the Civil War. But I do remember reading the claim that Sherman was delighted about Hood being put in charge, and that Hood managed to lose within weeks a theater that had been kept contested by Johnston for years.

@LittleBootsPro @isthisuneek You're talking about something else entirely. You could make the case Lee was better at commanding an Army than Johnston. Pretty much impossible to make that case when it comes to Hood.

@GA_partisan @isthisuneek Which were all hollow because Johnston kept on withdrawing instead of - you know - capitalizing on those victories. This is the entire problem Johnston had: he could win a battle, but then squander it by not acting upon it. Lee - by contrast - would seize upon it.

@isthisuneek @SandyofCthulhu Which does him great credit. Historically speaking, there were two ways an inferior side could win against a superior foe: Inflicting crushing defeats, or grinding him down with time. The superior foe had to be convinced that total victory was impossible/unfeasible. 1/

@deaidua Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt Ukraine also e.g. firing 100k+ 155mm grenades per month? Drones are incredible valuable, but they are not the best option for everything

3/3 Generell finde ich die Story von Guren und Mahiru sehr gut, nur hätte ich gerne noch ein bisschen mehr über manche andere Charaktere erfahren.

@christophermcln @Bigdaddyvinz_ By giving him Dragonstone, Robert elevated the second son of a lord to one of the most powerful men in Westeros and made him his successor until he got a son. It is understandable that Stannia wanted Storms End instead, but it was a big reward nonetheless. Robert could have

If you ask us which one we pick: 1) financing our homegrown strike drone capabilities without stirring things up inside German political landscape 2) giving us the Taurus stockpile equivalent in cost We would chose 1. We understand political decisions cost politicians their seats and new politicians are hostile to Ukraine. The funds for drones are also effective and Taurus isn't a game changer in any sense, on top of a very high price the stockpiles are very limited.
Colby Badhwar@ColbyBadhwar

Taurus remains a useful capability that could be added to Ukraine's arsenal. Merz should honor his word.

@uberbonker @Teoyaomiquu Found himself in entirely different circumstances than his British and French counterpart in 02/2022. While Germany is now the leading supporter of Ukraine (due to the USA withdrawing support), it was inevitable that this would take time.

@uberbonker @Teoyaomiquu The entire comparison is flawed. Germany is not comparable to France and the UK. We don't have a nuclear deterrent. We didnt sign the Budapest memorandum. We had a long-held taboo on providing weapons to conflict zones based on our history. Any German chancellor would have 1/

@uberbonker @AndDwightS @BohunkPundit @Teoyaomiquu Brexit played right into Putin's hands, that is why Russia supported the Brexit vote as much as it could. That so many people in Britain fell for the lies and false promises of the Brexit campaign is another matter.

@AndDwightS @BohunkPundit @Teoyaomiquu I will take a listen as I like to be informed but tbh there was plenty wrong with the EU to put British voters off without any influence. Post brexit I can see real cultural differences between the UK and Western Europe, evidenced through support of Ukraine.

@uberbonker @Teoyaomiquu Germany is providing Ukraine with twice as much military aid in 2026 that France and the UK do combined. And it is not like France and the UK did not need a lot of time until they started delivering tanks and the Storm Shadows... .

@Teoyaomiquu Germany are still cowards and always be for not giving it when France and the UK did. They have also dragged their feet on every major decision. Not forgetting keeping Ukraine out of nato prior to all this. Metz is a bit better but he did promise the Taurus.
