Located in Amaravati of the Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh, the ruined Buddhist Mahachaitya of Dhanyakataka is one of the most significant early Buddhist monuments of the region. Archaeological evidence places the origin of the stupa in the early Mauryan period, with later architectural and sculptural embellishments added in the subsequent centuries. The Amaravati Mahachaitya was among the largest stupas in Andhra Pradesh, with an estimated diameter of about 50 meters and a height of approximately 27 meters. The structure was built on a circular brick drum enclosed by a vedika. Four rectangular ayaka platforms are projected from the drum in the cardinal directions. Five ayaka pillars are believed to have stood on each platform, symbolically representing the five major events in the life of the Buddha: birth, renunciation, enlightenment, first sermon, and final extinction.ws

The fall of the Kakatiyas and destruction of Orugallu was one dark chapter in Indian history. It was during such dark times two men, Prolaya Nayaka and Kapaya Nayaka came forth to unite the disparate Nayakas and throw the Muslim invadaders out of Telugu land. Thread

#Andhra is an ethnicity, an identity recorded since antiquity. From Rigveda, Mahabharata, Puranas to Indica & later records, Andhras stood tall. Languages changed with time but Andhra endured as the name of the land & its people, one of the world’s oldest living identities.

Tangy, fiery, healthy & unforgettable. Yes, I’m talking about Gongura, an integral part of #Telugu cuisine & the soul of Andhra cuisine. Used in many dishes but my favourite is Gongura pachadi. Nothing beats Gongura pachadi with hot white steamed rice. 🙌

Gandikota has become more famous for that Grand Canyon like gorge on the Penna river in recent times. The place gets it's name due to the gorge(Gandi) formed between the Erramala hills range, where the Penna river flows through a narrow gap of just 300 ft, creating a magnificient looking canyon. However the fort here has an equally long and glorious history, capital of the Pemmasani Nayakas, regarded as the sword arm of the Vijayanagara Army, known for their fighting ability. The name of the fort itself has become a synonym for bravery, courage much like that of Bobilli, Kondaveedu.
