I think you shouldn’t only be bothered about now.
You primarily need to understand that the upfront guaranteed payments they got at a difficult time, and the amounts they made then, helped saved the club. The stadium became fuller as data showed increased attendance, which created a better atmosphere for the players to thrive, that has secured them a promotion, nothing less than £200m earned already from that.
Secondly, you don’t treat fans like cash cows, this loyalty scheme is creating a strongly-knitted partnership between the fans and the ownership, Bundesliga style. This is a recipe for success and survival in the premier league. Backing of the fans could do you a whole world of good, you can see this with Sunderland. Fans can even win you games if the atmosphere is electric.
Don’t also forget that, more fans potentially means more merchandise sales. Jerseys would be sold out on time.
Inside those 5,000 fans, many will want to bring their families, which also means more ticket sales.
Good atmosphere means they can attract more sponsorships, more money.
This strategy will also create a sustainable relationship, more people are likely to buy season tickets next season…and more people will also subscribe to any future loyalty scheme.
Business should not always be about now, that’ll be myopic in my opinion.
