Dropping the fob watch into the TARDIS is at least an ending to the story. You can argue it feels anticlimactic or that you don't find it satisfying, but it's still an ending to that story.

@TheSameSonic I don’t know if I’d say that the Chibnall era feels complete. Dropping the fob watch into the console very much feels like an admission that there’s still a story left to tell, whether Chibnall was able to or not. And also the Yaz stuff.

Say what you like about all of them but RTD1 feels complete. Moffat era feels complete. Chibnall era feels complete. The only one that doesn't and never will is RTD2, so by default it's the biggest failure out of the four.

Everytime you hear something about what Season 3/4 or the special would have been about, just remember how terrible Season 1 and 2 were and be glad we didn't get it.

@TharriesYT I also think it helps that it's actually got stuff to say. 14s arc has a clear narrative purpose and is trying to say something interesting about the show's identity. It's shockingly introspective for an anniversary special. I didn't get anything close to this from 15s era.

I think the reason I prefer the 60th over most of the Gatwa era despite them having many of the same issues is that I feel the 60th has a more coherent identity like it’s confident in what it is in a way that I just don’t think 15’s era ever fully was.

True in theory, but at least with Series 7-10, the peaks were SO high that the lows didn't matter as much, even if we were getting more of them. Since then, the peaks just haven't been hitting which is why the show is in the state it's in now.

@ProductionsJAW But personally I think it's the combo, it's like the double seal of approval being showrunner AND co-writing a script. But don't get me wrong, whoever is the other person deserves a share of the blame/praise as well.

@TheSameSonic I mean co-writer or not if you’re the showrunner it does. But at the end of the day it’s the writer who has written it. There’s plenty of episodes that people hate, but no one ever says ‘why did X showrunner sign off on that?’ And plenty of people loved Rosa 🤷‍♂️

Look I don’t like Rosa all that much either but are we forgetting that the primary writer credited for that episode was a woman of colour? Feels wrong to me to point the finger only at Chibnall but I guess it doesn’t fit the “Chibnall bad” narrative otherwise? It’s the same-
