This is a false equivalence built on bad history.
First, slavery didn’t start with “one African tribe.” Multiple African kingdoms (like Dahomey and Ashanti) sold captives but the transatlantic slave trade was driven by European demand, shipping, and profit. That’s what turned it into a massive, race-based system.
Second, you’re right that blackface has a specific history tied to minstrel shows and racist caricatures that context matters.
But pretending no other groups have ever been stereotyped, mocked, or dehumanized is just not true. Every group has faced it in different ways.
The issue isn’t “only one side” or “everything is equal.”
It’s that history is more complex than turning it into a one sided moral argument to shut down discussion.
English

Let’s put this dishonest “double standard” argument to rest once and for all.
Blackface is not harmless imitation, it is rooted in a long, ugly history of minstrel shows where white performers caricatured Black people as lazy, ignorant, criminal, and subhuman to justify slavery, segregation, and systemic oppression.
It wasn’t just offensive, it was a tool used to normalize white supremacy and shape how Black people were treated in real life.
There is no equivalent history where Black people used “white face” to dominate, dehumanize, or oppress white people.
There is no history of laws, policies, or violence reinforced by caricatures of white inferiority.
So no, a white person adorning Blackface it is not the same as a Black comedian cosplaying a white woman.
That’s not a double standard, that’s the difference between oppression and satire, between punching down and punching up, between racism and comedy.
Calling that hypocrisy isn’t insight, it’s gaslighting. You don’t get to ignore history, erase power dynamics, and then pretend the two are equal.
Miss me with the false equivalence.

@AutisticClip No religion is immune to collective blame.
Islam isn’t the exception so the problem is the mindset.

Just posted two shorts in the past week or so talking about using jumpers to configure your CPU, overclock, and the pains of IRQ conflicts… and now I see this 👏

@CatLover56577 there's no winner in the raging Ukrainian war night as well make peace otherwise people like him will never return home sad but true
English

Magnificent photo taken on the Ukrainian front. 🇺🇦
This soldier, still very young, appears exhausted. The cat, for its part, seems undoubtedly terrified.
This is probably one of the most striking photos of this year 2025, regardless of how anyone views this war.
And yet, in this embrace, it is difficult to say who is comforting the other.
This image was not generated by artificial intelligence, nor was it a montage.
It simply restores a little faith in humanity. Just a little. And that's already immense…

Edward Snowden said it the best:
"When you say 'I don't care about the right to privacy because I have nothing to hide,' that's no different than saying 'I don't care about freedom of speech because I have nothing to say.'"
"Simply because you are following the law, doesn't mean that you'll be exempt from governmental interference in your private life."

@TheMoodyTrues @JustAnothrAcct @jakebrodes Brandishing should only be illegal when it’s used to unlawfully intimidate or commit a crime not when it’s used to deter someone posing a real threat. Showing a firearm to stop violence against yourself, others, or your property is self defense, not criminal behavior.
English

@JustAnothrAcct @TheeOutpost @jakebrodes It *is* harder to track. But what's easier to track are the instances where people brandish illegally and it starts an altercation. If the average gun owner is carrying and feels threatened, they will likely threaten back- and in my experience, this often escalates a situation.
English

American and Texan here: Americans mostly use guns to kill their whole families or random people in road rage related incidents. Lots of times we use them to kill children too. Our 2nd amendment is 50% a cyanide pill we chew on all day and 50% a vanity project for suburban morons

@TheMoodyTrues @TheeOutpost @jakebrodes People are entitled to the right to defend themselves, and have access to the best technological means available to do so. This right is not invalidated simply because there are evil or foolish people. It definitely shouldn't be dictated by governments primarily made up by both.
English

@JustAnothrAcct @TheMoodyTrues @jakebrodes yeah Surveys have suggested tend to find much lower counts, such as roughly 60 000 to 65 000 defensive firearm incidents per year.
English

@TheMoodyTrues @TheeOutpost @jakebrodes Literally the entire point of the post is to point out how people don't use guns to kill tyrants which, once again, would be violence.
There are times when guns are used as a deescalating factor without even firing a shot, as well.
English

@TheMoodyTrues @jakebrodes I can think of dozens of cases where people used guns for self defense
English

@TheeOutpost @jakebrodes Ignoring going to the range (which is essentially practice for 2 of the other 3 use cases) most gun usage in the states is
A) suicide
B) violence
C) hunting
Millions of lawful owners and most never actually use the weapons in self defense or to fight tyranny.
