Reminder starts on 19 November 2025 (no taxi exemptions): Lambeth are proposing to introduce a trial Healthy Neighbourhood in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens by stopping motor vehicles from using local streets as a cut-through between Albert Embankment, Kennington Road, Black Prince Road, and Kennington Lane. Under the proposals, traffic filters, that prevent most motor vehicles from driving through, would be implemented on Tyers Street, Vauxhall Street, Newburn Street, Sancroft Street, and St, Oswald’s Place. Local traffic and deliveries would still be able access every street in the area, though some may need to take different routes.

Due to the nature of school travel in this area, with many opting to choose taxi travel to get to and from school, a decision has been made to not exempt taxis from this proposed School Street. School Streets focus on reducing the number of vehicles and through traffic outside schools to improve road safety and to encourage families to travel to school actively and sustainably. The proposal is to implement a morning only School Street, temporarily closing the road for one hour in the morning. There are numerous access points around the square and we are hopeful that taxi users will be able to find a number of suitable drop-off and pick-up points for taxi use.
