@KevinOConnor This is a great juxtaposition of the last two champs. Wildly different ways to get there and both teams doing it the way that fits their market.

The Knicks are an example of smart, courageous team building. Firing Thibs for Mike Brown was a ballsy decision by the Knicks. One of many that got them to this point. RJ & Quickley for OG, trading a 1st for Hart, signing Brunson to a big deal, the Randle for KAT deal, sending a ton of picks for Bridges, and moves around the edges like adding Shamet and Alvarado. Some teams are built through the draft. The Knicks were built through masterful trades and signings. Big time credit to Leon Rose and that New York front office.

I’ll take Knicks in 6. Spurs seemed too emotional as if winning the West and beating OKC was the mountain top. Spurs remind me of 2012 OKC. (Remember the team OKC beat won the West the next two years)

@JonesOnTheNBA And Fox really steadied the Spurs in that Game 7 against OKC. Hit timely buckets. Spurs would have lost that game without him. They won’t bail on him now.

A good follow up to that statement by Chuck would have been Ernie asking Chuck how he would have felt if a team he just signed a max with sat him in the middle of his first Finals because he didn’t have it going. Teams don’t just sit vet stars. They live and die with them

95% of the people on this app think managing NBA teams is like fantasy basketball. No, the Spurs are not gonna tell Fox to eff off in the middle of the series. Especially after he sucked it up on a bad ankle to help them make the Finals. They seem to believe in the guy.

The Spurs know how to TAKE the lead, they just don't know how to HOLD the lead. And that's really the most important part of the lead: the holding

@ThunderNumbers Yes, but that’s because Presti actually does what he says. He said “I will meet with guys and listen to their goals.” When they pitched Giddey coming up off the bench in 6 man role, he didn’t want it and then they traded him.

I wouldn't read too much about what Sam Presti says about players during his post-season press conference. About 3 weeks after this headline, Josh Giddey was traded.

@BrandonRahbar And that 2013 team didn’t fear San Antonio at all. They were on crash course with Miami and Beverly ruined it. (This is also why people can’t assume OKC OR San Antonio will get back)

@BrandonRahbar The Ibaka loss was huge. Started 0-2 then he somehow limped back and got OKC back into the series for a minute.

OKC has had a contending team incur injuries in 3 playoff runs. 2013: OKC #1 seed. Westbrook injured in 1st Round. Spurs go to the NBA Finals. 2014: OKC makes WCF vs Spurs. Ibaka gets injured. Spurs win NBA Finals. 2026: OKC #1 seed and makes WCF vs Spurs. JDub + Mitchell get injured. Spurs go to the NBA Finals.

You can’t just have a guy that is a 3 point threat that can defend. They need to be a threat to attack close outs. Knicks are wearing Wemby out defensively making him chase shooters and then making him rotate via timely passes or off the bounce attacks. All 5 guys can do it.

Wemby wasn’t even touched on that last shot and still flopped to the floor. If that were SGA it’d dominate the conversation today 🤔

Cason Wallace’s projected contract extension, per @KeithSmithNBA: Four years, $108 million with no options. “This may be the most fascinating decision of the entire group. Wallace has been lights-out as a defender since he was drafted. His offensive game has improved, but his efficiency has fallen off as his role has grown. That could be a sign that Wallace isn’t quite ready to carry a team. The good news? He doesn’t have to with the Thunder. The combination of projecting what Wallace will eventually be, his role now and going forward in Oklahoma City, and the Thunder’s ever-swelling payroll makes this a difficult one to peg. Still, it’s best to believe Sam Presti will take care of Wallace now and figure out the rest later.” Would you give Wallace this extension if you’re Sam Presti? #ThunderUp
