This is part one of a very long and sprawling talk I had with Tim, one that I enjoyed, as I think he did, albeit through clenched teeth and frustrated sighs. rvamag.com/politics/virgi…

AI data centers aren’t worth it. They raise our electric bills, consume all our water, and destroy our neighborhoods. And for what? So Big Tech can cash in while we get sold out. Local communities won’t take it anymore.

.@TimCywinski of @SierraClub, VA shares how AI data centers are popping up fast, but many drain massive energy & water resources while polluting Black & Brown communities. This is not just a climate issue. It's a justice issue.

styleweekly.com/tim-cywinski-35 My favorite line is the first one: Tim Cywinski starts our interview with a warning: “Be ready for your editor to hear some accidental but necessary curse words.”

We all live in a never-ending battle between good and evil — and the difference is made by those who show up and fight hard.” I know which side I’m on. Thanks @styleweekly.com for the Top 40 Under 40 recognition. It’s an honor. styleweekly.com/tim-cywinski-35

Healthcare IS a right because no one should be priced out of basic needs. It's unbelievable that we're still debating this in the richest country in the world. We can't keep letting healthcare companies write their own rules — they'll only protect profits- not people.

Ignoring a problem doesn’t solve it—that’s common sense. One in eight Virginians goes hungry. Where’s the sense in that? Trump cut a billion dollars in food aid, and @RobWittman supported it. That makes no sense. The only sense left is to fire Rob Wittman.

“I’d love to talk to these folks…”?! He should have done that before he voted to sell out our rural hospitals. You don’t get to start the fire & then brag about bringing a bucket of water. @RobWittman helped create this mess—he doesn’t get credit for pretending to clean it up.
Tyler Englander@TylerEnglander

I asked @RobWittman about 3 rural healthcare centers in Augusta closing and blaming the One Big Beautiful Bill. He's said there's $50B in the bill for rural facilities. “I would love to talk to those folks... and let them know, there's the opportunity for them to stay open."

The Secret Service rushed Obama out, but they let Biden talk to individuals in the crowd as long as he wanted (and it was a long time). When he got to me he asked my name and I said “I’m Tim and am an intern for the campaign”. He put his hand on my shoulder + said (3/?)

I was there to see Obama. It was my first election and I became swept up in the inspirational message of hope he me and my generation feel. Could care less about his VP. I don’t remember Biden’s speech, but I’ll never forget what he did right after (2/?)

Plans to build new, expensive polluting power plants in Virginia are the result of unchecked AI data centers growth in Va. If the tech industry is smart as they claim to be, it can find a way to develop data centers without harming health and economic security of Va’s families.
Sierra Club Virginia Chapter@vasierraclub

.@DominionEnergy wants to build new pollution-intensive plants in environmental justice communities — it’s not to power homes + businesses. It’s to satisfy the outrageous energy demand of data centers. No data center is worth sacrificing public health. wvtf.org/news/2024-07-1…

It’s irresponsible for leaders to turn their backs on a successful program that protects people from pollution. Even with ongoing court cases, #RGGI is a public good that holds polluters accountable, lowers electric bills, and strengthens our communities.
BK@BradKutner

After a #VALeg budget deal emerges, @vasierraclub says Dems shouldn't vote in support if it doesn't include #RGGI funding. Not sure how a budget sans RGGI would impact the ongoing lawsuit either, but I'll find out next week maybe.

Ratepayers shouldn’t be punished for poor investments of a monopoly utility, nor should they be forced to pick up the tab for more costly polluting projects that harm communities and conflict with state law. Dominion’s IRP (plans) asks for both.
Blue Virginia@bluevirginia

VA Sierra Club: “Dominion’s proposed plans fail to comply with state climate mandates and come with heavy consequences for ratepayers and communities.” "None of the proposed plans... comply with the VA Clean Economy Act," which is "legally binding" bluevirginia.us/2023/08/va-sie…

Summer isn't a good time to plant new trees, but we'll back at it this Fall! Planting more trees is a great way to bring temperatures down & provide shady areas for residents to catch a break from the sun's rays. Stay tuned for upcoming tree planting projects & tree giveaways!
