The local elections are hotting up in Metro-Land.

We have a by-election in the Mendip Hills seat on the 7th of May. It’s a very large seat geographically and has some beautiful villages. Weather’s not been too bad either! Today we were in the lovely village of Chewton Mendip but we’ve also been in Holcombe, Chilcompton, Stratton-on-the Fosse and Oakhill. This afternoon @tompower_ and I were out in the glorious spring sunshine in Shepton Montague. We had a chat with the guy delivering the heating oil - something which so many in our villages are reliant on. He said the shortages are beginning to hit, that they are currently getting their supplies from Felixstowe because it’s the nearest depot with any left but these will be used up soon and they are not likely to get more in. He said he’s mostly topping up tanks that are already 3/4 full because people are trying to secure their supply but it’s creating artificial shortages. But people are scared of the unregulated costs and the speed at which they are rising. Demand is exceptionally high right now. He doesn’t see costs coming down for a long time. We really appreciated his taking the time to give us this information but it’s a real concern and I hope that something can be done to help get this crisis ended/averted.

After a long day in the budget-setting Full Council @TomPower_ and I headed to a local Buffalo Farm before heading out to deliver more of our leaflets in the glorious spring sunshine! Fascinating fact, Buffalo are like autistic cows. They have to do everything the same way every day. The same feeding stall, the same milking stall, in the same buffalo order. If the wrong buffalo goes in out of the usual order it’s game over for the routine and the herds team will take hours to sort it out! Beautiful animals, beautiful spring. Now I’m on the road, heading up to Yorkshire for the @Conservatives Spring Conference. Cannot wait!

411 Labour MPs and 0 imagination. We’re the only ones providing solutions to the problems Labour has created.

Have brought @TomPower_ to the newly reopened Plaza Cinema in Wincanton which closed in the 90s (I think). It’s been done out beautifully and the tickets, drinks and snacks are so reasonable priced. Right on our doorstep!

A brilliant weekend at the South West Conference in Plymouth. It was great to see so many colleagues from across the South West and a real pleasure to meet @KemiBadenoch . We are certainly moving in the right direction with Kemi in charge.

Delighted to finally be able to say that we finally have an independent High Street pharmacy back on Wincanton’s High Street. It was great to see residents already using the pharmacy, meeting the Pharmacy Manager Jonathan Wood and owner Mitesh Patel, as well as the wider team who cannot wait to work in support of the community in Wincanton and the surrounding area.
