@FBAwayDays Newcastle 2-2 Luton in the old First Division in August 1985. Stood on the West Paddock which is pretty much where that photo is, albeit it was at the front of the old West Stand, which the pictured Milburn Stand replaced.

@JimmyRiddle23 @GM1872_ Some NUFC fans may feel an affinity with Rangers, some may with Celtic. But most of us don’t give a shit about either. 🤷♂️
English

Didn’t realise Newcastle disliked Celtic so much 😂 comments full of it and it’s really good to see

🚨With Newcastle players Yohan Wissa and Sean Neave liking Sunderland posts after the 2-1 humiliation on Sunday, Will Osula today has now been pictured in a Rangers shirt. This is so disrespectful to the club and poor choices from the players. #NUFC Thoughts?
English

@JimmyRiddle23 @GM1872_ Ah yes, the Tyneside Irish club, rammed with NUFC fans before and after every game. Have hosted countless NUFC supporters events over the years and was the birthplace of the Newcastle United Supporters Trust.

@ErikHvatum @RestoreAussies @JakeLandauTO Absolutely incorrect. The Anglo Saxons, the Northumbrians in particular were well aware of Hadrian’s Wall. The Northumbrian Monk and Writer, Bede wrote about it, the towers and forts along it and the Roman troops stationed there.
English

Yes, but few people know about that heritage, which is no longer taught to children, even in Britain. It will soon enough pass from all memory that the Union Jack means anything other than Islam.
Remember, just three hundred years after the departure of the Romans, the English had no recollection whatsoever that such a thing as the Roman Empire existed and looked at Hadrian’s Wall with gobsmacked wonder, speculating as to who built it and why.

As a Canadian it's funny that Australia and New Zealand still haven't managed to come up with original flags for themselves, how are you still stuck on a British Ensign in the year 2026?
Ten Years Ago Today@tenyearsnow
New Zealanders vote to retain the current flag over the proposed design in the nation's flag referendum. More than 2 million people vote in the referendum.

@SimonDanczuk @JHCPAL Tinned Pease Pudding is absolutely revolting 🤮 Shop bought Pease Pudding is fine, as long as it’s refrigerated and in the plastic tubs (usually either Dicksons or Durham Foods) found in most supermarkets though

@mygirlsmyworldx … I think Eddie is a great man, who’s done so much for us, but I think he’s reached the end of the road. Who do we get? I don’t know, but it needs to be sorted early on. We can’t be waiting until after the World Cup. It’s a mess!
English

I think Eddie is in way over his head with the job he has to do and the lack of support from above is shocking. Really miss when Amanda and Mehrdad were here. There's no connection or communication there by more.
Another mismanaged transfer window scares me 😬
#NUFC
English

@mygirlsmyworldx … purely re the team, I feel Eddie’s made some bad mistakes re game management. We’ve lost 10 games from winning positions so far this season (7 PL = 21 pts lost!) yes we’ve had injuries and hectic schedules but team selections have often been poor and he just repeats them…
English

@mygirlsmyworldx … I think Eddie was meant to get more time to rest/recover in the summer from the pneumonia but given what happened that went out the window. It all led to a shitshow in the transfer window and the Isak situation and given no DOF and an ill CEO, there was no one there to lead…
English

@mygirlsmyworldx There’s been a multitude of issues that has led to this. The communication since Amanda and Mehrdad left has been poor, replacing Eels took far too long and left us in limbo. Similarly re Mitchell leaving (and we don’t really know what extent Eddie was involved in that)…

@RTTimeMachine2 @TyneSnapper Newcastle in the time of our Great Grandparents wouldn’t be ‘Early Newcastle’ at all!

@RirieSteve @NUFCgallowgate @HLTCO @PeterCrouchPod … I’m also aware even when people don’t have a geographic/family connection to the team they support. There’s plenty who support their team through thick and thin and are no lesser supporters than locals. I may not understand not supporting a local team but they’re proper fans
English

@Tom_NUFC @NUFCgallowgate @HLTCO @PeterCrouchPod With you there mate, but we should still be happy with anyone not born & raised in toon, or who have moved away, the heart & blood is still black n white HWTL
English

@RirieSteve @NUFCgallowgate @HLTCO @PeterCrouchPod 100% My brother was born and raised here but now lives in Birmingham. When I was a kid, it was my Mam who kid originally from London (via Merseyside) who took me to matches when I was getting interested, and she fell in love with NUFC herself…

@GeordieKermit9 @DavyHogg63 I tend to favour the Jacobite theory myself as there is some evidence suggesting people from Newcastle being referred to as ‘Geordies’ and people from Sunderland being referred to as ‘Jamies’
English

@GeordieKermit9 @DavyHogg63 … However it may be due to the Jacobite rebellions in the 18th century (1715 and 1745) in which Newcastle supported George I (1715) and George II (1745) whilst Sunderland sided with the deposed James II and the his son Bonnie Prince Charlie…
English

@GeordieKermit9 @DavyHogg63 … the term ‘Geordie’ is disputed but originated later in the 18th/19th centuries. It may be due to the adoption of Northumbrian miners adopting George Stephenson’s safety lamp as opposed to the lamp used elsewhere designed by Humphrey Davy…
English

@GeordieKermit9 @DavyHogg63 Not quite. When the War of the Three Kingdoms (which included the English Civil War) broke out. Newcastle sided with the Crown (under Charles I) whilst Sunderland sided with the Parliamentarians...
