@bort17 @cityaestheticss 2. So they can sell the whole building to one portfolio holder more easily. To this end, they're not interested in city-building or community-building.

@bort17 @cityaestheticss 1. Not sure, I think it begins with the funding (after you've changed zoning laws). Developers have a one track mind. They're interested in one building use: housing, offices, retail etc. They tend not to be interested in housing plus something else. They like an easy sell-off.

@MaCgroupUK @RVA_DOT Most old cities are perfect for bikes because of the narrow streets. Old city streets are too narrow for cars, so the incomparability is the car, not the bike.

@RVA_DOT No most old cities do not have the room for bike lanes &they add little to nothing to the economy , yet cost tax payers a fortune & deliberate congestion, deliberate increased emissions & cost the economy !

Spending a few days in China with my (half-chinese) gf, pretty incredible how the rest of the world is living decades behind this country You can do literally everything from one single app (Alipay: travel, food, taxi, hotels, Fx rate, tax refund, translation etc..) okay maybe add Wechat so 2 apps Gigantic cities (with endless skyscrapers) that are a few decades old with tens of millions of people: clean, green, no “overcrowded feeling” (actually wondering where people are) Food and items delivered by drone to drone kiosk Top notch high speed trains Top notch premium transportations that are super cheap compared to the “western world” Etc etc…

@KevinWSHPod Modern 🇨🇳 needs to be seen to be believed. It’s incredible how far it’s has come. While the West has been busy arguing pronouns, bathrooms, DEI, China has been busy building a better life for their people.

Oil companies in the West: still debating whether EVs are viable. Oil companies in China: building charging hubs the size of fuel terminals. Shell’s biggest EV station on Earth: 📍 Shenzhen ⚡ 258 fast chargers The future isn’t waiting for Western think tanks. #Bettrification

Careful with stats… 👀 80% with PhDs? That’s not reality — but the bigger truth still stands: 🇮🇷 Iran is one of the most educated societies in the region. High literacy. Strong STEM base. Women in science. ⚠️ Which makes one thing clear: this isn’t a conflict against an “unaware” nation… it’s against a highly educated, strategic society. That changes everything. Because wars against knowledge-driven nations don’t end quickly — they evolve into long-term resistance. 📚🧠 Education is power… and power doesn’t collapse easily. 🔥

SHOCKING 😳 🇮🇷 We just discovered that 80% of the population in Iran has Master's degrees and PhDs. Their President is an excellent heart surgeon, and The Foreign Minister and almost all members of Parliament holds a PhD. Irán also has a 94% literacy rate and one of the largest populations of women scientists in the world. They are an ancient empire that innovated mathematics and science. 94% literacy rate? ❤️

@QuentinDempster My push bike runs on musli. I live close to work. There's 2 supermarkets, 3 pubs, a park, 2 schools and a nursery, coffee shops, takeaways and a chemist is walking distance of my home. On energy, time, the environment (near and far) and finance, my 15 minute city wins.

The penny drops: EVs are far cheaper to run per kilometre than petrol/diesel vehicles. 👇This, folks, is the game changer. We won’t have to rely on supply/price manipulative corrupt global cartels. + Public health benefit = no particulate pollution.
Chris Meder@EVCurveFuturist

Driving electric is up to 4× cheaper than petrol. 100 km costs: ⛽Petrol: $22–$33 ⚡EV (home, 6pm): $5.90 ☀️EV (midday solar): $1.20 Same distance. Massive difference. Plus no servicing or oil changes. Around $4k saved every year —a family holiday instead of fuel bills.⚡

@DavidPocock The problem is batteries. And the battery problem is twofold. - EV batteries are not to be trusted. They catch fire, they last longest if charged to partial capacity and their efficiency reduces with age. - Rare earth mining is one of the worst of environmental disasters.

Australia burns through about 25 billion litres of petrol and diesel every year. Replacing petrol cars with EVs would cut our reliance on expensive imported foreign fuel. But EVs still make up only about 2% of Australia’s 20 million vehicles. More affordable EVs & a strong second-hand EV market can help more Australians afford the switch while strengthening our energy security. theguardian.com/environment/20…

@SustainableTall The problem with this thread is that people are concentrating on finance and the passing on of risk, when actually, the issue is what makes a pleasant place to live.
