@thyphoidjack My father was a gunner that participated in the entire North African Campaign. He once sang a song composed by the soldiers that included Gazala, Mersa Matruh and Sidi Rezekh. Sadly I cannot remember the words.

2nd Battalion Regiment Botha Christmas Card 1941. Sadly for the Regiment, there was very little Christmas joy to celebrate because this Regiment was decimated virtually to the man during the Battle of Sidi Rezegh in Libya on 23 November 1941 where the greater majority of its personnel were either Killed in Action, Died of Wounds or taken POW. After Sidi Rezegh, the 2nd Battalion Regiment Botha ceased to exist as a Fighting Force and all the surviving personnel who managed to successfully escape and evaded capture to successfully reach Allied Lines at El Alamein, were later integrated/amalgamated into other South African Regiments of the 1st South African Division.

@SandraJayn @benpooler I was merely the spokesperson representing the collective results of a team of scientists from different disciplines. We coined the phrase "slow onset disaster" to describe incremental systemic failure.

@benpooler I may be incorrect but I think @TurtonWater was the first individual to coin the term and alert South Africa to the looming phenomenon of #StateFailure - The ANC obviously ignored his warnings.

When he [ Anthony Turton ] worked as a spokesperson for the [CSIR] in the early 2000s, he was told to play down the extent of the looming national water crisis. “The outcome has been known from as early as 2002….. The outcome is still a predictable systemic collapse.”
