Whatever else one might say about him, Eric Swallwell really does look like central casting sent him over to play a member of Omega Theta Pi. youtu.be/LuFCaIAnETk?si…

TJ is not quick enough for the P4 game. He’s not going to find bright lights & packed arenas at these schools. Stay in Detroit, be well-compensated, and build a winner w/ the coach who gave you your shot.

TJ Nadeau (@tjnadeau22) tells me he has been in contact with the following schools: USC South Florida UAB Loyola Chicago Nevada San Diego Furman Old Dominion Toledo Western Michigan Ohio Oakland Indiana State College of Charleston UCSB Unreal shooter.

I have an idea for March madness final four. A consolation game with the two losing schools for third place. Maybe that’s dumb, but it would be fun to add another game Monday before the title game. With NIL, do it for prize money or something. Random thought today

Missed this one last week. Another TRO was granted by a state court in an eligibility rules lawsuit filed against the NCAA. It’s the same argument as the Pavia case, that a JUCO season shouldn’t count as a season of DI competition. Preliminary injunction hearing is April 6.

Breaking: Oakland star basketball player Brody Robinson is suing the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility, arguing it's unfairly costing him $500K in NIL cash in 2026-27. A judge has granted a TRO, with a hearing April 6, the day before the portal opens. detroitnews.com/story/sports/c…

@Keemotionx @TheHoopHerald Maybe because I was scrub hoping for garbage time, I've never liked the "stop trying and dribble out the clock" bit--I would have wanted to actually play basketball against Kansas for a even a few more seconds.

@GottliebShow 100% different, the coach is an adult in the workforce. The kid is a student athlete playing amateur basketball while make some cash through their NIL. Nothing wrong with either

It is different. A head coach is responsible for the entire program. A player is not. But, if we want to compare Wade has a buyout of $3m which is $500k more than his all in salary at NC State. So, if we sign players to a multi year deal, and they pay a buy out, are we fair then?
Myron Medcalf@MedcalfByESPN

Will Wade, who wants to leave NC State after a year, is allowed to do this. That’s just the reality, whether you agree or not. Also, a 19-year-old athlete, who wants to leave after a year and go to a place where they feel comfortable, can do it, too. Don’t tell me it’s different.

@hunters174 @Trees307 It will eventually pop. This is minor league basketball. No minor league sport has ever sustained such salaries. It will take time b/c of fan loyalties, but each passing yr it will be more apparent that no one is playing for old U. They're just pros not good enough for the NBA.

@HoriZoneRT You really need to list this year's stats on your transfer page. Career stats don't give much idea what a team is losing or gaining, e.g. Hadnot is not an 11 ppg guy anymore; Briggs comes in off a 17 ppg avg, not 10. Career stats very misleading.

@HoriZoneRT Similarly, Hadnot is a much bigger loss to PFW than using his career #s suggests.

@HoriZoneRT The last season is a better measure of what a team is losing. Johnson just wasn't that important to U-D this year. I'm sure that's true with others.

Detroit Mercy won 8 games last year. 1 game the year before. First season over .500 in 10 years. Most Horizon League wins in 13 years. Had not been to the HL title in 14 years. Until tonight. @DetroitMercyMBB is one win away from March! College basketball.

One of the more underrated coaching jobs this year is what Mark Montgomery has done at Detroit Mercy. The Titans were 1-31 in 2023/2024, the season before Montgomery took over, and improved marginally last year to 8-24. Two years in, and Montgomery has this squad one win away from just its second NCAA Tournament bid since 1999. It'll be UDM versus Wright State with an automatic bid on the line tomorrow night in Indianapolis.
