I was the Justin Herbert vote. The guy had the worst offensive line in the NFL all season and despite that he was working miracles in almost every single game. Stafford's OL became 2/5ths as bad as Herbert's for 5 minutes and he became a turnover howitzer. He embodied 'value'.

Idk who needs to hear this (wait yes I do - Red Sox fans), but the real player the Red Sox traded Devers to make room for is locked up until 2034, had a 140 wRC+, and was a gold glove caliber fielder. His name is Roman Anthony and the revisionist history needs to stop.

Just called @HammesNotreDame bookstore to get info on @Ivan_Maisel appearance Friday for his terrific Frank Leahy book. They said event postponed “bc of series of events.” C’mon ND, you’re better than that. Don’t penalize an author (of an ND book) for being on CFP committee. 1/2

I filed a column about this but I believe they’re holding until the morning.
Not a conspiracy. Just a bad idea. Which is why I don’t begrudge Notre Dame for saying “We’re not going to be your bowl ratings draw when you just made us your plot twist for your dumb TV show.”

@AndyStaples There very obviously was a conspiracy. There really is no denying that. What exactly motivated the conspiracy can be debated, but there’s no doubt the committee curated a fraudulent final ranking that defies any explanation.

I understand why Notre Dame fans are pissed. The Committee mis-ranked them from the beginning — which is why I (and others) freaked out every week — and created a false hope that just was never necessary. The process is flawed in that regard. I'd be pissed, too.

@AmericaRus2024 @AriWasserman The most generous read of the committee is that they rigged the rankings all year for TV ratings. That’s the most generous possible explanation. Why would Notre Dame agree to continue to put money in ESPN’s pockets by playing in a meaningless bowl game?

If you don’t recognize what the committee just did as corrupt and far worse than not honoring head to head, then you are not a serious person. If your initial reaction is that “Notre Dame should join a conference”, and not “the committee is corrupt”, you are not a serious person.

@dannykanell Very key to his and all Miami fans’ argument is that Miami and Notre Dame are identical metrically. In fact, Notre Dame has unanimous support from the metrics. As such, if you go with head to head over literally all, you might as well be claiming SMU should be ranked over Miami

The argument for Miami over Notre Dame is singular - Miami won the head to head.
Every single other relevant data point - every single one - favors ND.
If you rank Miami ahead of ND b/c of h2h, and only h2h, you also have to rank SMU and Louisville over Miami.
Which is dumb.

It makes sense why people want h2h to matter above all else. But ND beats Miami in everything included in “all else”. If h2h is > 50% of consideration, then Miami should be ranked above. Otherwise, ND should be

There’s no trap door. They could have just made the just decision the last 4 weeks and chose not to. They don’t need to create some elaborate scheme to just do what they could have already been done.

Miami is by every metric we know to be predictive the worse team. It is fair to say Miami, despite winning h2h, is still the worse team as the rest of the season indicates. Is Louisville better than Miami? No

Miami deserves to make the playoffs, and there are arguments for them to be ranked over Notre Dame. But there are rational arguments for Notre Dame to be ahead of Miami as well. Pretending Notre Dame doesn’t have a case against Miami is ridiculous. Head to head is not everything

and has outscored their opponents by 6 more points a game despite having the same strength of schedule and Notre Dame going to their backups more often.
