I am here today to talk about an important issue facing our City - and in fact - our Democracy: the removal by the National Park Service of a series of interpretive panels from the President’s House exhibit on Independence Mall. We gathered the facts, researched the law, and our course is clear: I directed our City Solicitor to file a lawsuit in Federal Court that would require the Federal government to return the President’s House panels to the City of Philadelphia. A public hearing will be held on Friday on our preliminary injunction request. We will keep you updated on progress with this lawsuit. You cannot erase our history. You will not erase our history! #presidentshouse

We are horrified to learn that the signs describing the lived experiences of enslaved people at the President’s House Site in Philadelphia were removed this week. History cannot be erased. We support those who are committed to preserving the full history of America. (2/2)

Hockey player Jesse Kortuem publicly comes out as gay, crediting ‘Heated Rivalry’ with helping him share his story: “I know many closeted and gay men in the hockey world are being hit hard by Heated Rivalry's success. Never in my life did I think something so positive and loving could come from such a masculine sport. I've struggled the last few weeks to put these emotions into words, fearing the impact on team dynamics, etc. I loved the game, but I lived with a persistent fear. I wondered how I could be gay and still play such a tough and masculine sport […] I want to speak to the athletes out there who are still in the closet or struggling to find their way. I want you to know that there is hope and you’re not alone. There is a life and a deep happiness waiting for you on your path. You will get through this, and it is going to be okay.”
