Recovery continues across West and South Philadelphia, and so does our commitment to every resident affected by Saturday’s storms. On Sunday, I joined our @PhiladelphiaGov emergency response and public safety leadership team to meet with neighbors, survey storm damage, and make sure we’re connecting families with the help they need. We’ll continue this work for as long as it takes. For the latest recovery updates and resident resources, visit the City’s storm recovery page on our phila.gov homepage. And if you haven’t already, text STORMPHL to 888-777 to sign up for free @PhilaOEM alerts and recovery updates from the City. Thank you to our first responders, city employees, utility workers, and every partner helping Philadelphia recover. —— @StreetsPhila, @PhillyH2O, @phl_cgoffice, @PhilaParkandRec, @PECOconnect, @PhillyFireDept, @PhillyPolice, @philly311

Sunday is a recovery day for our neighbors in West and South Philadelphia affected by yesterday’s storms. @PhiladelphiaGov is here to help today, tomorrow, and until we are all back to normal. Our crews are working around the clock to clear downed trees, restore services, assess damage, and support impacted families. I also signed a Declaration of Disaster Emergency to strengthen our recovery efforts and help ensure every available resource is brought to this response. If you need us today: • Emergency: Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies or immediate hazards. • Non-emergency issues: Report them through Philly311 by phone, online, or through the app. • Property damage: Complete the City’s online damage survey at Phila.gov so we can assess the full extent of the impacts and help guide recovery efforts. Please check on your neighbors today, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and anyone who may need a little extra help. Thank you to our first responders, emergency officials, city crews, utility workers, and every partner who has worked tirelessly since yesterday’s storms. Your professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to serving Philadelphia are making a real difference. To keep up with the progress being made text STORMPHL to 888-777. We’ll continue sharing updates as recovery efforts move forward. ——— @PhilaOEM @phl_cgoffice @StreetsPhila @PECOconnect @PhilaHsgAuthPHA @PhilaParkandRec @PhillyFireDept @phillypolice @PhillyH2O @philly311

According to the National Weather Service, our city was impacted last evening by a series of at least four severe microbursts that brought destructive straight-line wind gusts across parts of West and South Philadelphia. From the moment the storms moved through, our first responders, emergency officials, city crews, utility partners, and community partners went into action to protect residents, clear hazards, restore services, and begin the recovery. After meeting with residents, surveying the damage firsthand, and receiving operational briefings from our response teams, I signed a Declaration of Disaster Emergency related to the July 11 storms to strengthen our recovery efforts. Thank you to every first responder, emergency official, city worker, and partner who answered the call today. Your professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to serving Philadelphia made a real difference when our residents needed you most. Our work is far from over. City crews will continue working around the clock to clear hazards, restore services, assess damage, and support every affected neighborhood. If your property sustained storm-related damage, please complete the City’s online damage survey. If you have an emergency, call 911. For non-emergency issues, please use @philly311. And please, check on your neighbors, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and anyone who may need a helping hand. We’ll get through this together. ——— @PhiladelphiaGov @PhilaOEM @phl_cgoffice @StreetsPhila @PECOconnect @PhilaHsgAuthPHA @PhilaParkandRec @PhillyFireDept @phillypolice @PhillyH2O

Although we are disappointed in the ruling by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, we remain laser-focused in our commitment to tell the whole truth about the history of 9 enslaved Africans who lived and worked at the President’s House. We will continue this fight to ensure all avenues - legal or otherwise - are pursued. Our history cannot be whitewashed.

Access to food is a basic need, and meeting that need helps give young people the foundation to learn and succeed. The Summer Meals Program from @PHLfamilies and @PhilaParkandRec helps ensure that every young person in our city can access healthy meals at 500 sites across the city throughout the summer, regardless of where they live or their circumstances. I am saddened by the recent fire at the Northeast Philadelphia Islamic Center. Every Philadelphian should be able to gather in worship with a sense of peace, safety, and belonging. No one should ever fear for their safety because of where or how they pray. My thoughts are with the congregation and everyone impacted by this incident. I am grateful to our firefighters, police officers, and other investigators, including @ATFHQ, who responded quickly and are working to determine exactly what happened, and hold any responsible party accountable. Philadelphia is home to people of many faiths, beliefs, and traditions. We may worship in different ways, but we share a common belief that our houses of worship should always be places of hope, healing, and community. In moments like this, we are reminded that an attack on one house of worship affects us all. As a united city, we stand together in rejecting hatred and violence wherever they are directed. A longtime, caring voice for the voiceless has passed. Senator Shirley Kitchen served the people of North Philadelphia in the Third District in the Pennsylvania Senate for 20 years, and she was a powerful, effective advocate for her constituents and for all of Philadelphia. Food insecurity, health care, public transportation, restorative justice, voting rights - Senator Kitchen was always on the front lines on important issues, fighting for people who often had no one else to fight for them. Senator Kitchen was the second Black woman to serve in the State Senate, and she was a trailblazer and role model for people like myself. Shirley Kitchen cared about working people, and she cared about Philadelphia. She will be deeply missed. My prayers are with her and her family and friends today.

This morning, we hosted the @July4thPhilly Celebration of Freedom Awards at the @ConstitutionCtr, where we celebrated America’s 250th anniversary of its founding on July 4, 1776, right here in our great City of Philadelphia. We spoke to a filled room about the triumphs of our democracy - and the many steep challenges that remain. Freedom is not free, and it requires full participation from every American. The @PhiladelphiaGov honored 8 extraordinary citizens for their contributions to our city and region: Ambassador @DLCohenPHL, Bishop Dr. Millicent Hunter, Dan Hilferty, Joe Neubauer and Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer, @gilliedakid, @Wallo267, and @colmandomingo. On the Semiquincentennial of America, One Philly, a United City, and One America, a United Nation were on full and joyous display. Happy 250th, America! 🇺🇸

Today, I was proud to welcome more than 100 bipartisan mayors from across America to Philadelphia for more than a tour. I invited them here with a purpose: to walk through the places where our democracy began and to reflect on the responsibility we all share to live up to its promise for the people we serve. Together, we walked from Market Street, past the President’s House site and Independence Hall, to the Museum of the American Revolution. In just a few blocks, we reflected on our nation’s founding, confronted the full story of our history, and renewed our shared commitment to public service. As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, there is no better place than Philadelphia for leaders from across our nation to come together, reflect on where we’ve been, and recommit to where we’re’re going. My thanks to Vince Stango and the @ConstitutionCtr, Tom Cochran and the @usmayors, John Brenner and our partners at the @PAMunicipalLeag, @AmRevMuseum, and every mayor and civic leader who joined us. One America. A United Nation. 🇺🇸

This morning, more than 100 mayors and local elected officials from across the country and I gathered together in our great City of Philadelphia, and walked through the American story.   In just a few blocks, we reflected on our nation’s highest ideals, confronted some of its hardest truths, and reminded ourselves that history is not simply something we inherit —— It is something we shape. As leaders and doers. As mayors. Some from big cities and others from small towns. All provide us with different perspectives. But we are united by one shared responsibility —— To serve the people who placed their trust in us. Philadelphia is proud to welcome @usmayors to America’s first city. A city that reminds us where our democracy began. Let’s roll up our sleeves and continue the hard work together!

We only get the chance to turn 250 once. So let’s do it right. Let’s do it together. Let’s do it as One Philly. Be there with us on Saturday for the One Philly: Unity Concert for America as we welcome Philadelphia, the nation, and the world to the birthplace of American democracy for the nation’s largest July 4 concert celebration. Best of all, it’s completely free. No tickets. No barriers. Just great music, spectacular fireworks, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate America’s 250th birthday together. Whether you’re joining us on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway or celebrating from home watching on NBC10, this moment belongs to all of us. We can’t wait to welcome you to Philadelphia. 🔔🇺🇸 Special thanks to our incredible partners for helping make this historic celebration possible: @PhiladelphiaGov, @July4thPhilly, @esmproductions, @LiveNationUrban, @theroots, and @nbcphiladelphia.

Smokin’ Joe Frazier exemplifies the very best of Philadelphia—discipline, grit, resilience, humility, and heart on his way to becoming the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World. 🥊   His legacy did not stop in the ring. He gave back to our city in a powerful way — Training the next generation of fighters in his gym on North Broad Street. And his training ritual of running the steps helped inspire one of the most iconic fictional characters in the world, Rocky.    Relocating his statue here to the Philadelphia Museum of Art honors a true Philadelphian whose life embodied the values our city is known for and places his legacy in a space that resonates with people around the world.    I want to thank everyone who made this possible:  Chief Cultural Officer Val Gay, Public Art Director Marguerite Anglin and the entire team at @CreativePHL, @cmjyoungjr, Artist Stephen Layne, @philamuseumart, @philaparkandrec, @stateside_live, Marco Federico of Heritage and the Conservation Collective, the Frazier family, Jacquelyn Frazier- Lyde and Pete Lyde, the Smokin Joe Frazier Champions Foundation, and the many Philadelphians whose long-term advocacy drove this moment.
