Including these glass lizards, several distantly related ‘worm lizards’ have skin bone plates covering their bodies. We just found that these evolved independently. For the full story: doi.org/10.64628/AA.4m… CT data provided by S Decker (2025, CMC 27120, OSUM R685, MorphoSource)

We will be looking for a #PhDstudent next year. Please keep it in mind if you are interested in interdisciplinary veterinary physiology and anatomy research. 4/4. (Keel bone here in red, air sacs in blue, and lung in purple overlaid on a silhouette of a hen). 4/4

🐔 have keel bones. They are often (~80% of laying birds) fractured by the end of hens' lives. I am really excited that @DFF_raad have decided to fund a project looking at how these fractures relate to the nervous and cardiorespiratory systems and tell us about birds' pain . 1/4
