Happy Easter Monday! Just a reminder to squeeze peeps before biting into them to check that they have been fully marshmallified, otherwise they can be a bit crunchy.

Disappointed to see the Broadley’s flat lizard go out in the first round of #2024MMM , transported not only across the continent, but up into an arboreal environment. Drop that gaudy monkey off at the Augrabies falls and we’d see what’s up!

7 years of #overtTCN digitization efforts has produced > 25K datasets from >13K vertebrate specimens. It's been an incredible experience with amazing collaborators. While the project is oVer(t), it's just the beginning of an amazing shift in accessibility of musuem collections.

Delighted to receive my @BizarreBeasts spiny mouse pins. I really love the video they made that talked about the tail osteoderms in these rodents, and am tickled that the armored, Eocene hedgehog thing, Pholidocercus, gets a shout out too!

@Machado_DSc I remember scanning a cleared and stained frog years ago- it was a pain to scan as it was so slippery, but I don’t remember it becoming darkened- we scanned it in a ziplock bag so it didn’t dry out at all.

Delighted to be a part of this fun collaboration with the @floridaMuseum's Jason Bourque and Richard Hulbert, using #microCT to identify the latest occurrence of the aquatic salamander family, Batrachosauroides, in the Eastern US. doi.org/10.58782/flmnh…

Hot off the presses, a new paper that applies Geometric Morphometrics to CT scanned cacao flowers to identify potential pollinators. This was a really fun project led by Katie Wolcott, & one of the first studies to use of the new @UFRSC Versa 620 CT. bsapubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ap…

It's officially #spookyseason 😱 A toad & salamander were the last meal for an eastern hognose snake in this CT image from the #NSFfunded project oVert, which is scanning 20,000 vertebrate specimens from the @FloridaMuseum. 📷: Edward Stanley/David Blackburn/ Florida Museum

@anjgoswami @sciam Great story Anjali! Reminded me of the BBC doc from the early 90’s— the velvet claw— that looked at the lineages of carnivorans, and also juxtaposed specialist cats /generalist bears. It’s a little old and out of date now but still a favorite of mine! archive.org/details/TheVel…
