I asked 5 professional scouts and 5 performance analysts to predict the highest #WorldCupFantasy scorer in MD2. Scouts: 🇧🇷Vinícius Jr. ×2 🇪🇸Pedri ×2 🇪🇨Valencia Analysts: 🇧🇷Vinícius Jr. ×4 🇫🇷Mbappe Vini was the most frequently selected player. Brazil's attacking structure often creates favourable conditions for him: they regularly overload one flank to manipulate the opposition's defensive shape before switching play quickly to isolate their left winger in 1v1 situations. Against Haiti, that dynamic becomes especially relevant. Haiti are likely to defend compactly and prioritise protecting central zones, naturally leaving more space in wide areas. Those are exactly the situations where we need Vinicius: receiving in isolation, attacking defenders directly, and generating high xG chances through carries into the box. Brazil should dominate possession and territorial control, increasing the volume of his touches in advanced areas and giving him repeated opportunities to attack defenders. One of the scouts selected Enner Valencia. Sebastian Beccacece will likely look to bypass central congestion. Ecuador's approach could rely on early, flat deliveries from wide areas toward Valencia, alongside targeted near-post set-pieces designed to exploit Curacao's aerial vulnerabilities. From a fantasy perspective, this may be one of the clearest set-piece mismatches of MD1, particularly given Ecuador's well-drilled routines from qualifiers. Pedri was mentioned twice. Uruguay recorded an unusually high number of high regains and positional recoveries in dangerous areas against Saudi Arabia, making this a potentially relevant fantasy signal for Spain. Saudi Arabia defended in a compact 4-4-2 against Uruguay and were willing to concede territory. However, once possession was lost, Uruguay repeatedly recovered the ball high up the pitch and attacked before Saudi Arabia could reset their defensive block, generating sustained pressure, particularly after second-half tactical adjustments. Pedri may be one of the main beneficiaries. Spain's positional structure often places him in Zone 14 following high regains, making him a frequent receiver in dangerous central areas. The minutes risk is obvious, yet this may be the clearest MD1 mismatch and arguably the strongest tactical fit of the round. Qatar struggles when games become athletic and transitional. Opponents consistently hurt them with direct, vertical attacks through central channels and half-spaces. Ndoye's acceleration over medium distances is elite, and he thrives when attacking open space. Like Embolo, he makes aggressive central runs, but his far-post movement could make him even more dangerous in this specific matchup. Haaland received 3 votes. Teams facing Iraq regularly target a central striker with early deliveries into the box, prioritising direct progression over long build-up. Few teams concede chances through such a repeatable pattern. A penalty-box striker is the archetype you want against them. Sabitzer also received multiple mentions. Several analysts highlighted the value of 90-minute players against Jordan. While Arnautovic is appealing, Jordan frequently loses concentration after the 70th minute, leading to territorial collapse and a surge in second-ball opportunities. Sabitzer, or any reliable 90-minute midfielder, stands to benefit. Posch was another popular pick due to his tendency to exploit unusual attacking situations from deep areas.

Austria are also generally viewed as one of the strongest pressing and transition teams outside the elite tier. Even if Baumgartner's output for Austria look meh on paper, models often weight club data much more heavily because the sample size is larger and more predictive. Baumgartner ranks second among Europe's midfielders for xG+xA combined, behind only Bruno Fernandes. He's arguably the player who benefits most from both Austria's strengths and Jordan's weaknesses. He wins second balls, attacks space after turnovers, makes late box runs and regularly arrives in goalscoring positions as a second striker.
