The world is navigating a period of transition in financing of health and development. Traditional sources of global support are shifting, while new pressures -- from climate change to ageing populations -- are reshaping national health priorities. In this dynamic landscape, #Thailand's 🇹🇭 leadership on UHC is timely and essential, building on the nation's sustained progress toward achieving health for all, Dr Catharina Boehme, Officer-in-Charge, WHO South-East Asia, highlights in her opinion piece in Bangkok Post today. .@WHO today provided US$ 175 000 emergency funds to #SriLanka 🇱🇰 for life-saving essential health services to reach people hit by severe flooding and landslides across all districts of Sri Lanka. 👉🏾 The funds will be used for rapid response medical and public health teams to deliver trauma/first aid on site, refer individuals for hospital care, attend to pregnant women, children, and the elderly, among others. These teams will conduct medical stocktaking, assess medical needs, water quality, sanitation, food safety, and environmental health risks. 👉🏾 As the lead agency for health sector response, WHO is supporting Joint Rapid Needs Assessment rolled out by national authorities and partners, to guide a coordinated government-led health response. 👉🏾 Continuity of essential services, strengthening surveillance for timely detection of any water or vector-borne disease outbreak, and mobilizing all possible resources remains central to WHO’s response. 👉🏾 Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency in the wake of the devastation caused by the cyclone affecting all 25 districts. 👉🏾 The country has requested for international humanitarian and early recovery assistance and continued support of the United Nations Agencies and International Organizations for immediate disaster relief. Sri Lanka has also requested for multi-sectoral international assistance in areas such as food security, livelihoods, agriculture, nutrition, education, water, sanitation, shelter, as well as early recovery and rehabilitation interventions. 🔗: who.int/southeastasia/… 📸: Disaster Management Centre, Sri Lanka #SriLankafloods #floods #WHOSEARO

Media representatives and communicators from Bangladesh, China, India, Malaysia, and Viet Nam gathered in Hanoi, Viet Nam, for the ‘Road Safety Reporting Workshop for Asian Journalists.’ Over the next 3⃣ days, they will exchange experiences and explore how stronger, evidence-based reporting can bring greater public and policy focus to road safety. 🛣️ Road traffic crashes claim around 1.19 million lives each year and are the leading cause of death for children and young people aged 5–29 years. In the WHO South-East Asia Region alone, more than 330 000 people died in 2021, nearly one-third of the global total in road accidents. 🛣️ Organized by @WHO, the workshop is being held in coordination with Viet Nam’s National Traffic Safety Committee and supported by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD). 🛣️ The workshop, which is part of WHO’s participation in the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety, aims to shift the narrative from blame to prevention, helping to save lives on our roads. #RoadSafety #WHO #journalists #media @BloombergDotOrg
