If you were the Pac-12 commissioner and needed to add 2 schools to bring the conference up to 10 football members, which 2 schools would you consider adding?🏈

@OregonHomer I think this is good. He was an excellent recruiter, just not as good at the day to day coaching.

I've been disagreeing with @michaeljknowles since way before it was cool. Here, we discuss the controversy surrounding @TrevorSheatz's now infamous post, as well as the relationship between discretion and grace, with our pals @SpencerKlavan and @JRHay on The Jeremy Boreing Show Wednesday Live. I would like to point out for anyone who needs instruction in such matters that this is the proper way for friends to disagree -- over a nice Irish whiskey in front of as many cameras as possible. Gotta get them clicks!

@MattWalshBlog My grandfather built a small house on the farm in rural Oregon where my dad and his brother lived until they were both married in their late twenties, but zoning regulations in the area wouldn’t allow that sort of thing any more

@MattWalshBlog I loved your intro the other day talking about adult children staying at or near home and all the reasons your mind has changed…. I think something else that has made “family compounds” less common is zoning changes……

Watching Toy Story 3 with my kids. In the landfill, the toys are apparently the only conscious beings amid all the random plastic objects. And yet in the fourth installment we’re introduced to a self-aware spork that Bonnie, a young child, has named Forky. This suggests that consciousness in the Toy Story universe is imbued into objects only once they are named and loved by a human being. This would explain why the toys in Sid’s room in the first film apparently have a more rudimentary and savage form of consciousness, reflecting the conscious state of the child who owns them. I need to develop this theory more. I’ll let you know what I come up with.

@MattWalshBlog As a child, I read the book The Velveteen Rabbit about a conscious and self aware stuffed rabbit, and at 6 or 7 was so effected, that every time my mom would throw out a stuffed animal, I would "rescue it" from the trash, and hide it under my bed so she wouldn't "kill it"

@MattWalshBlog Part of this too is we spent a good portion of Saturday working on the farm so when we had the opportunity to go fishing or play in the woods it was escape, if we were inside watching tv we’d be more apt to be put to work weeding the garden or something

@MattWalshBlog My sister and I grew up with four cousins on the other end of the farm, and neighbors with kids what you are saying I think is even raising your kids without screens, active and playing outside is not the same because there is a lack of kids raised that way for them to bond with

We do say no to screens. The problem is that most kids’ lives have been consumed by them. So the experience for kids who are not screen addicted is fundamentally different. Being an outdoorsy kid isolating now in a way that it’s never been before, ever in history. This is an objective data point, not just anecdotal. Kids on average are spending 50 percent less time outdoors, and that’s the more conservative estimate. Add in mass migration and the fact that people are having fewer kids, and having them later in life, and you have a scenario that is just simply unlike anything anyone over the age of 30 experienced as a kid. Something very real and very important has been lost. That’s just a fact.
Karol Markowicz@karol

I admit I find this entire thing perplexing every time it comes up. My kids were outdoors in the community even when we lived in Brooklyn and certainly since moving to Florida they’re outside year round with the kids on the block. Nothing is gone, you can say no to screens.

@MattWalshBlog The experience is different and lacks that community of neighborhood children who had to work out fights because parents weren’t hovering over them chastising them every time they bickered, forcing us to be creative relationally as well as in entertaining ourselves

@PTraichal @JeremyBWhite If you want someone more eloquent to ask the questions, fair enough. And despite my statements "not matching" , California does in fact lead the nation in many products (Almonds, Pistachios, Broccoli, Lettuce, even with all the fallow fields in the CV due to the Delta Smelt

@WilinModoc @JeremyBWhite Your recent statement (fallow) does not match your first statement (biggest producer). You need to focus in on the true problem. How is your batting average in voting for past CA politicians? Newsome? Perhaps you should ponder a different strategy than asking questions.

@PTraichal @JeremyBWhite The question was asked and I gave an answer, you can dismiss the answer, that is your right. I live in a part of the state that is dying due to overregulation, and so to me, that is an issue I care about, if you want me to shut up because that is a "softball", fair enough....

@PTraichal @JeremyBWhite And if any politician answers that CA is doing great, they are delusional, and it extends beyond our borders to grocery stores everywhere paying higher prices for food, this was the Golden state not because of the beaches and the stars but because of the farmland and resources

@WilinModoc @JeremyBWhite It is a softball in that the politicians can essentially say "keep going, CA is doing great." The point of the questioning is to force the politicians on record for changes and improvements.

@PTraichal @JeremyBWhite There are many problems in California, but if we don't produce food, we don't survive. Newsom and his extremist coastal supporters think that food magically appears on shelves in the store, this isn't a softball question, it is an essential question that many Californians ignore
