Probably the key reason why the "climate movement" is getting nowhere is because it is colonised by the frames of liberal "protest" or secular "Left" politics. Both frames wilfully misrepresent the objectivity of the catastrophe in order to avoid the reality we face. The old environmental movement participates in this conceit, and for "tactical" reasons those on the frontline continually submit to the legacy frame in order to keep the support of supposed liberal supporters so as to gain access to resources (money, media access etc). And so it presently is a continual battle to break out into a totally new frame - that of civilizational collapse - billions of deaths - and thus a revolutionary response that goes well beyond "politics" to challenge and transform the very way we see the world - and thus organise our societies. This new objectivity is rooted in the core fact that what we are face is not "social" but physical - the laws of physics. And those laws are both non negotiable and give accurate irreversible predictions of what will happen in the future. And now in 2025 these predictions make clear we have locked in 2C and a billion people being forced to move from where they live due to extreme heat and drought. Feedbacks are now triggered that will destroy, first the global economy, and then the complex construction of modern societies. We face the biggest crisis in human history - as a matter of fact. We do not face just oppression and injustice but the suicide of humanity. This demands a completely different approach to any social struggle of the past centuries. Of course tactical comparisons can be made, but the main task is to imagine a form of action, organisation, and level of sacrifice, which responds to this unique reality. In the UK we are already moving beyond the whole frame of "the climate" to a revolutionary project to institute assemblies and sortition (those in positions of power selected randomly), as well as a post secular promotion of transcendence as a new mode of being and action. Of course, this will be belittled and ignored for a while yet. But when the cascade of ruptures hits us, hundreds of millions of people will be looking for where humanity has to go in the face of this endless catastrophe. And being part of a "climate campaign" is not going to cut it. "Liberal" and "Left" politics cannot compete with the default victory of fascism. We need something totally different. And we need it now. rogerhallam.com/leadership-in-… Sign up for our next meeting: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regist…
