Why would anyone be against this?

Approximately 70% of American taxpayers receive refunds every year. In other words, only about 30%; primarily higher-income earners end up paying net federal income taxes. The real problem isn’t that Americans aren’t taxed enough; it’s the federal government’s wasteful spending, inefficiency, and unchecked deficits. We should focus on fixing that first, cutting waste, eliminating duplicative programs, and improving oversight before even discussing raising taxes on the American people.

I don’t know how the Netherlands allocates its tax revenue, but in the US, the government frequently directs taxpayer dollars toward inefficient and wasteful programs, as well as foreign aid efforts; such as assistance to Somalia; that have been criticized for poor oversight and potential diversion to terrorists or corrupt officials
