There are serious Qs for Ministers to answer on the Land Use Framework including solar farms already in planning, the seeming reduction of food producing land and the methodology used. This should be scrutinised by MPs but, yet again, Ministers are running scared of the Commons.

Labour’s chaotic handling of the Sustainable Farming Incentive last year left so many farmers on a cliff-edge. Today, I challenged Ministers on their new SFI scheme, which many farmers tell me will mean more risks, more cost, and less reward.

During a week in which our farmers take the government to Court…. …..and as the Finance Bill continues its last stages in Parliament…. ….there are still so many unanswered questions regarding this government’s ill thought through Family Farm and Family Business Tax.

Tenant farmers in England manage approximately one-third of all agricultural land, working incredibly hard through a range of tenancy structures with both private and public landowners. Our tenant farmers face unique challenges regarding security of tenure, high competition for land, investment restrictions and access to capital. The team at the @tenantfarmers led by their CEO @georgewdunn and current Chairman Robert Martin are a fantastic organisation whom I have had a long working relationship with. They represent a wide range of non-land-owning structures, including traditional tenancies, share farming, contract farming, and grazing licences. In my role as Shadow Farming Minister, it was great to speak at their Annual General Meeting in front of their Committee to discuss the future of the tenanted sector and the vital role it plays in enhancing food security, as well as the addressing the current challenges the sector faces, including financial pressures and the family farm tax changes.

Farmers are taking the government to court today over the family farm tax. They have my full support.

Great to introduce some of our local community champions who go above and beyond - working with me as a team - to help get things done for you.

Brilliant to pop along and support the 5th Keighley East Morton Beavers, Cubs and Scouts fundraising coffee morning today at the beautiful St Luke’s Church in East Morton. It was an excellent event, with a whole range of delicious homemade cakes - including an amazing lemon drizzle cake! Organised and supported by an incredible team of volunteers, the scouts is a fantastic organisation in which many of our young people across our area benefit from. The scouts builds confidence, self assurance and a ‘can do’ attitude in all who get involved, and it was great to see that on show today. Great also to have a chat with Felix Linacre who is busy fundraising for his trip to Poland next year as part of the Scouts International Jamboree! Well done all - and great to pop in and catch up.

How can this be right? The Mayor of West Yorkshire needs to rule out a tax on our fantastic @scouts groups ⚜️…. ….. AND all of those volunteer led youth groups which support so many of our young people by providing overnight accommodation.

Such a brilliant evening in Parliament last night with an incredible team of Young Farmers who had travelled down from Bedfordshire and further afield to debate the future of farming. The quality of the speeches was superb - all full of detail, ideas and deeply considered policy suggestions. There were impassioned interventions where many of our next generation shared practical on farm experiences and comprehensive knowledge. The future of British farming is definitely in capable hands! Huge privilege to chair the debate and huge thanks to @Blake_MidBeds for organising.

It’s started! 🐑 Sunday evening farming.

🎭🎶 Wow! What an incredible night! Brilliant to spend my Saturday evening watching the latest production by Keighley Youth Theatre, which was so professionally produced. ‘It’s On Us’ was a deep, thought provoking and moving musical performance about citizens being forced to choose sides as a city plunges into civil war. Rehearsals started over four months ago, but the play today, is unfortunately so pertinent to today’s global events. It was so incredibly well written by Jamie Knights, one of Keighley Youth Theatre’s very own long standing members - who now aged 26 has been with the group since her first performance with them aged 6! Jamie is now a film and TV production graduate and now spends her time producing incredible scripts. More than 20 young people from across Keighley took part in last night’s production held at Oakworth Methodist Church. There were many beautifully performed songs, including some incredible solos. The stage design, lighting, make up and costumes were all brilliant. Huge well done to the whole team who help make this possible, especially the Trustees David Knights, Rob Green, Bethany Green, Matthew Stewart and Sevi Ledgard for their amazing efforts. We are ever grateful to you all for inspiring our next generation and filling our young people with such confidence, creativity, determination and enthusiasm. It was evident for us all to see. Keighley Youth Theatre is currently celebrating its 20th Year in its current format, but is 50 years old in total! The group specialises in 'home-grown' dramas and musicals, often written through improvisation with the cast.
