Many of you snobs call yourselves artists because it’s an easy way to justify your largely pointless existence. Real art is scarce and made more valuable by ai slop flooding everything. If you’re mad about ai you’re probably just a grifter who produces slop, threatened by a much more efficient slop generator. You feel entitled to special treatment because you’re human, but your “art” is just as soulless. You’ll say it’s subjective, sweeping your inadequacies under the rug, but there’s a reason your work isn’t appreciated in any real sense. The best you get is token appreciation from other “artists” who are hoping for the same validation. No amount of grandstanding and circle jerking will change things. A few of you will become great, but most of you will spend the rest of your lives in the squalid obscurity of your own self pity, convinced thst having a pulse and smearing graphite over paper is what makes you an artist.

What I’ve been saying since forever. The issue with nearly all superhero films today is that they’re all just structured as action comedy adventures with interpersonal drama sprinkled in. That’s not to say this is a format that doesn’t work, but for Spider-Man specifically it doesn’t feel right considering so much of what makes his character and mythos interesting is the soap opera element with a well defined cast you want to follow around and learn more about.

@TheChrisLambert @badpunname I understand where you're getting at. But most people aren't also reading Maus, yet not only it's held in high regard, it also won a Pulitzer. So I don't think we can use the "what's most read" as part of the formula.

That’s why I said “most” because most comics are superhero and that’s the primary and popular form of the medium. Obviously there are non-superhero comics that tell self-contained stories and are literary and great. But most people aren’t reading those so they aren’t part of the “greatest comic of all time” discussion that’s dominated by superhero stories

It’s because most manga tell an actual story, even if it unfolds over a long period of time. Most comics don’t. The stakes of any one story never matter. They just get retconned or the universe rebooted or some annoying thing. Watchmen won because it was an actual work of high literature told through the medium. Everything mattered and characters had actual consequences. As cool as The Killing Joke is, it doesn’t matter. As fun as the Spider-Verse was, it doesn’t matter. THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN…and then it doesn’t matter. With, manga, the storytelling experience is better, so there’s less consensus. Comics are like if every TV show was CSI or Law and Order. Then you had the lone exception of The Wire. Manga is like HBO. There’s a lot more to pick from.

Invincible returns pencils, some talking pages. While not being the most fun to work on, they still can be somewhat enjoyable to add visuals to a script and make the characters “act”. The little “x”’s are so I don’t need to fill it all in with pencil, it signals to the inker to simply fill the whole area in with black. If you like seeing my pencil pages, let me know, I only have 2600 pages of them 😂
