@BMcSport The rule doesn’t have to apply to every line marking. there are plenty of examples in rugby where location on field determines a specific rule and where line marking means different things.

@_condo But again, you couldn't have simultaneous grounding on the touchline in the field of play being out, and simultaneous ground in-goal being a try. The same point stands..

@_condo If you do that in-goal, it has to be everywhere else, too, Andrew. We can't have a situation where touching the line is out for 100m in the field of play, but then it's in for the in-goal..

With the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games to be held from 23 July to 8 August 2032, followed by the Paralympics, the bigger question is will the AFL and AFL play during this window or are they intending to suspend their competitions by way of a mid season break?
Owen Leonard@owenleonard_

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon has confirmed the league will push to have Aussie rules included at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics: “Our sport is a sport that should be on that stage. We’ll work closely with the Olympic committee on what form that takes” @9NewsMelb @FootyonNine

When I last looked at it AFL and NRL were in the top three leagues in the world on a revenue per fan basis

I always find this binary code war narrative bemusing. In reality large numbers of Aussie Rules fans are also Rugby League fans and vice versa. I appreciate the need to push each sport but it’s becoming tiresome. Both are phenomenal sports and businesses in a country of 27m ppl
Malcolm Conn@malcolmconn

Why does PVL keep talking about the @AFL? The @NRL is irrelevant to @afl fans. They think there is just rugby. They have no idea there is also rugby league - theage.com.au/sport/afl/we-l…

@_condo @VinceRugari @MattyWindley good question! So I think a good analogy would be if you had a closed system for businesses where the owners were complaining about their investment and asked "why would they spend more if we opened it up". They have to to stay at the top, or get replaced by someone willing 1/2

@grazorblade84 @MattyWindley A 15% crowd lift, an extremely optimistic prediction, won’t pay for it. Amenity value is not a revenue stream. Owners are scarce and stretched already. This is the reality, like it or not, so we *have* to build differently, creatively, in a managed way, as Matt and I discussed.

For now, outside the AFL, NRL, AO and AGP, sport lives with this constant tension: reach vs revenue. The next phase will see more sports having to contribute financially to secure free-to-air coverage.
Christy Doran@ChristypDoran

Rugby Australia has dropped the ball again. Where’s 9’s free-to-air coverage of Super Rugby⁉️ NRL/AFL is weeks away and Channel 9 isn’t showing Super Rugby. They won’t this evening. It wasn’t included in the RA/Nine deal last year. So short-sighted.

Ultimately, it’s the agent’s job to act in the best interests of their client. Their job is to protect the player, progress their career and maximise their value at every stage.

Why isn’t Lomax’s manager being scrutinised more closely? They negotiated a release with no binding commitment from R360 and no contingency plan. Was the assumption really that Parramatta would just roll over on its release provisions when it didn’t work out?

@tommorris32 @venkatananth What revenue multiple is that based on? Getting the money will be the easier task compared to aligning cricket on how any revenue is shared and spend by CA and its state and territory members. More complicated if only some teams take on external investment.

Some interesting details re: the BBL’s privatisation plans via @tommorris32. Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades to be sold 100% & Perth Scorchers at 49%. 2-3 teams to Indian owners, while also hoping to attract US folks. Each BBL club valued at 150-200m (unsure if AU$/USD)
SEN Cricket@SEN_Cricket

It’s estimated that each BBL club is worth between 150 to 200 million. The Thunder and the Renegades if they are sold – as I expect they eventually will be – are far more likely to be sold 100%.  If there was a third team to be sold, I believe of the other franchises, the Perth Scorchers are the most likely team to be sold to a 49% investor” - @tommorris32 with who is likely to be sold in private ownership.

Really though, that almost makes it harder to swallow for Robertson. If the players had enough calculation to articulate their thoughts in such a way that impressed a Rhodes Scholar, it shows that it was very much a decision taken in cold blood.
