@fingerj86 @football360au Would be interesting for sure! Down to Shepparton too, perhaps… But yeah, Luke did acknowledge the cash. Always the hurdle… He suggested maybe an end of season champions league style tournament for winners of those regional comps?

After reaching the heights of the NPL top tier, this proud regional football club got a "devastating" call that changed everything. They were out. 🗣️ "It hit us like a hammer...the wound is still pretty raw" Yoogali Soccer Club are sharing their story, in full, not just for their sake - to make sure this can't happen again & to look for a solution. These are exactly the types of stories I want to explore on the Building Blocks podcast. The curious case of Yoogali Soccer Club. Where on earth does an aspirational regional club go if they aren’t connected properly to a metro pyramid? football360.com.au/an-australian-…

@muzza_316 @clancylowana Correct… Sounds like Yoogali tried with FV (via leagues in the north of the state, ie in Shepp) but got knocked back.

@MattyWindley @clancylowana FQ already has at least four clubs that are geographically across the border that play in the South Coast (Gold Coast) region, so the state borders should be no barrier for clubs that want to play football. Perhaps Yoogali could consider joining FV, if they were to accept them?

Football Australia - not Member Federations - should determine where awkwardly positioned regional clubs should play. Discuss. Thoughts? It’s the topic we explore via Yoogali SC, which is stranded in no man’s land after being axed from Canberra’s NPL. youtu.be/KE488-_aiYs?si…

@muzza_316 @clancylowana Or like, hypothetically. A club in Lismore. Shows promise, wants to rise. It might make sense for them to get fed towards Gold Coast / Football Qld rather than Newcastle / NNSW. Possibly bad example, but you know what I mean.

@MattyWindley @clancylowana Which is not to say I am opposed to having regional representation in NPL, but it has to be on merit for comp integrity. And most QPL 1-2 clubs in SEQ are not advanced enough to be able to handle those regional clubs, much less them travel to SEQ every second week.

@muzza_316 @clancylowana No I think that’s very fair! Good call. I think more what I was thinking was not so much FA being able to say “you can play in NPL and you can’t”. But more, say, in the case of Yoogali - “you’re kind of in the middle of everywhere and nowhere - your best fit is X, so play there.”

A great part of the Building Blocks podcast is that we can run extended clips of some Breaking Barriers doco interviews. This chat with former A-League Commissioner Greg O’Rourke was illuminating. Loving what he, Trent & the team are doing at Sutherland youtu.be/WbmBf9i4OIo?si…

Right before a World Cup year, Marco Rojas made the call to hang up the boots. A lifelong dream, within reach. His reason why? Genuinely heartwarming. Watch the full episode of the Building Blocks Vodcast: tinyurl.com/y8yuj2jp
