When I was heading to NYSC camp, I had only ₦5,000 with me and nothing in my account. I was really worried about how I would survive the next few weeks. On the day I arrived at the garage to board the bus to Benue, I met a beautiful lady inside the bus. Her name was Semiat. I was busy on my phone when she tapped me and asked if I was also going to camp. I said yes, and she asked if we could be friends. I replied, “Why not?” From that moment, we bonded quickly. She chatted with me like we had known each other for years. The journey continued, and when the bus stopped in Akure, the driver told us to get down, buy food, and ease ourselves because he wouldn’t stop again until we reached Kogi. Everyone got off to buy something to eat, but I stayed back because I had no money, even though I was hungry. To my surprise, Semiat bought food and a Hollandia yoghurt for me. I was completely shocked. Later, when we got to Edo State, she bought me bananas again. We finally arrived in Benue at night. Since it was already late, we couldn’t proceed to the camp. The journey from where the bus dropped us was still about 3–4 hours. The driver said he wouldn’t move again until morning, so everyone had to find a place to sleep. I had made up my mind to sleep inside the bus, but Semiat dragged me and insisted we go to a nearby hotel. I told her, “Let me stay here. I don’t have money for a hotel.” She hissed and said, “Let’s go jare.” We went to the hotel, and she paid for the room. I was completely speechless! She even bought food for me that night. The next day, after arriving at camp, we moved into our hostel, secured our beds, and headed to Mami Market to eat. After eating, we went for verification. I finished mine quickly, but she was told she had been posted to Lagos instead of Benue. Apparently, her boyfriend had helped her with a direct posting. Omoh! I couldn’t hold back my tears. Someone I had known for barely two days was already leaving me. She left camp that same day, and I missed her so much. She was incredibly loving, kind, friendly, and beautiful. I had never met such a kind person before.
