I'm in a fighting mood, with Tom Curry and the Brits coming at us over #BongiMbongambi and SA over, wait for it, alleged racism. An issue we're possibly world experts in. So, some facts. 1. Bongi, a black player from a developing black country, grew up in a poor township in Bethlehem, Free State. He and his friends made rugby balls from orange nets stuffed with newspapers because they couldn't afford the real thing. Coaches told him he'd never make it. 2. Tom Curry, a white player, grew up in a family of professional rugby players in a developed country, primed for success. He was one of the youngest players to appear at the tournament he first played at. 3. South Africa is synonymous with averting racial civil war and overcoming apartheid. Our racial relations aren't perfect but the word 'miracle' is applied to our democratic transition with good reason. We take racism very seriously. 4. The UK was an imperial behemoth that subjugated a quarter of the world at one point who has refused to apologise for their past and where Brits of colour still routinely experience discrimination and silencing. 5. The Boks are a picture of us when we're at our best. Those from privileged and underprivileged background, black and white, deeply bonded yet compassionate of differences and fighting for a lofty goal together. 5. The English rugby team rolled out one of it black players to praise the 'courage' of a white player, who has mobilised the might of toxic British tabloid against Bongi, the Boks and SA on the eve of a historical possible fourth world cup win. Around an easily explained language issue that they refuse to try to understand - a refusal that has its own racial undertones. Some removed their silver medals when they lost to us in 2019, so poor is their sportsmanship. Against this background, a player like Tom Curry with so many multiple layers of privilege behind him, accusing Bongi of racism and trying to destabilise SA before a historical game with literally no evidence isn't just laughable, it's unjust. And it's an insult to a country like South Africa who has overcome so much, and has so many more challenges ahead of us. We deserve the world's respect for getting this far, and should be championed on for this much-needed win that means so much to a country that is, in many ways, in crisis. Sorcery Coffee Roasters in Pretoria lived up to the hype and is worth driving 48km to visit from Joburg ☕️ The views are Instagram worthy, the coffee is as strong and beautiful as the Springbok scrum, and the pomegranate cheesecake is neck-and-neck the best I've ever had! After a scintillating victory by the Springboks on Saturday night, I didn't get much sleep but decided to road from Joburg to Pretoria yesterday to see what's happening on that side of the world and document our efforts for all of you at the same time. We couldn't have gotten off to a better start. Located inside the Diep in die Berg venue, Sorcery Coffee is nestled in the Bronberg Mountain Range within the ruins of an ancient farm, and offers the most incredible view over the ridge of the Pretoria suburbs. Sorcery Coffee offer several varieties of coffee, as well as an array of cakes, brownies, croissants, quiches, etc. As always, I had a black Americano while @J_MartinStrydom had a freezo. We also both devoured a slice of their pomegranate cheesecake while taking in the views. All I can say is that the time spent traveling to Sorcery Coffee Roasters was worth it and you have to visit yourself to understand how amazing this place is. Thanks to @SasolSA and @KiaSouthAfrica, we will be on a mission over the next few months to discover and showcase many more amazing spots just like Sorcery Coffee Roasters. This place is surely well-known to locals but I'm also sure many Joburgers don't know about them. Now you do! PS. Feel free to share this post far and wide. Is anyone experiencing issues with FNB (#FirstNationalBank) this week? There is something hella suspicious going on with all my expected incoming funds to different bank accounts from different people. But yet I don’t see anything of someone experiencing the same/similar thing?

Don’t drive with your window open, hide your phone while you drive, don’t walk outside at night or alone during the day, hang onto your handbag and children while you shop, look around for hijackers you when you stop at a red light or park at a mall or enter your driveway, don’t let your children play outside, keep your doors and gates locked 24/7, check the locks and set the alarms before you go out/to bed, keep your panic button with you at all times, don’t go to the CBD, don’t go hiking, don’t drive at night, watch out for rocks being thrown off bridges, don’t stop if your tyre bursts and don’t wear jewellery or carry cash/valuables in public. But happy Freedom Day, South Africa 🇿🇦
