#sapsWC [SAPS SEIZES DRUGS, FIREARM AND CASH AND ARRESTS SUSPECT IN MALMESBURY] Ongoing efforts by the #SAPS to combat #gang-related crime and drug trafficking in Malmesbury yielded positive results when members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a suspect and confiscated drugs, a firearm and a substantial amount of cash on Sunday, 19/07. Members were conducting disruptive ops, stop-and-searches and high-visibility patrols in Wesbank, Malmesbury, in response to ongoing gang violence in the area. During patrols, officers noticed suspicious activity at a residence in Fresia Street and acted on observations made at the scene. A search of the premises led to the discovery of drugs that were allegedly being prepared for distribution. Further searches resulted in the seizure of mandrax tablets, tik, ecstasy tablets, drug paraphernalia, a pistol with ammunition, a blank firearm, and cash amounting to R47 799.30 believed to be linked to illegal activities. A 65yr-old man was arrested on charges relating to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammo, as well as dealing in drugs. At Fort Brown, SAPS members, the CPF, the Ubunye Foundation and community volunteers cleaned Fort Brown Primary School and established a food garden. Arrests included 199 for illegal dealing in liquor, 49 for possession of drugs, 58 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, 84 illegal migrants, 26 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and 301 for other offences. The robbery occurred on 21/03, when five armed suspects allegedly stormed a residence, robbed the occupants of cellphones, cash and a state-owned firearm, and unlawfully transferred a large amount of money from the victims’ bank accounts. On Monday, 20/07, members of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) and Gauteng Counter Intelligence Operations will appear before the Gauteng South High Court where accused persons, including the alleged mastermind of these contract killings, Cat Matlala, will stand trial on the attempted murders of businessman Joe Sibanyoni and five others, media personality Tebogo Thobejane and three others, and musician DJ Vettys and two others. Lieutenant General Dimpane has commended the investigators for their unwavering commitment, resilience and determination in building watertight cases against those allegedly responsible for planning and executing these attacks. "The commencement of this trial is the result of months of meticulous investigations, intelligence-driven operations and evidence gathering by members who refused to give up until those responsible were brought before the courts." Investigations into the three cases commenced in December 2024. Through extensive investigative work, detectives and intelligence operatives were able to link the accused across the three matters. The Acting National Commissioner said the State's case is supported by compelling evidence collected during the investigation. "Our investigators have collected overwhelming evidence that exposes the role played by each accused. This evidence will be presented before court and we are confident that the truth will emerge during the trial." Investigators have thus far recovered two firearms linked to the attempted murders of Joe Sibanyoni and DJ Vettys. Further forensic and ballistic evidence forms part of the State's case. Lieutenant General Dimpane said the beginning of the trial should serve as a warning to individuals involved in organised violent crime. "This is a clear message to anyone who plans and executes contract killings: SAPS will pursue you relentlessly. We will use every available resource, every investigative tool and every intelligence capability at our disposal to ensure that criminal syndicates are dismantled and that those responsible are removed from society for a very long time." She added that the victims and their families deserve justice and that SAPS remains committed to ensuring accountability.
