Today, my alma mater, Sharif U of T, was reportedly struck amid U.S–Israeli attacks on Iran. To put this into perspective, this would be akin to a foreign power targeting MIT.
I look at this photo from my convocation, full of hopes and plans for the future, surrounded by friends and mentors, and wonder what the campus looks like now. I wonder when girls like the younger me will be able to set foot on it again.
Academic spaces are sacred. They should not be drawn into conflict. Civilian sites should be protected in times of war.

Last night, Israeli settlers carried out a pogrom in the village of Qusra in the West Bank, in which they set two chicken farms on fire, opened fire on civilians and homes, and abducted and brutally assaulted a 32-year-old Palestinian man, Zahran Shanableh. He is now in a coma in the ICU, fighting for his life.
No arrests have been made. None of these settlers will face any consequences because Israeli settler terrorism in the West Bank is state-backed terror.
