@molarawood Unrelated, please what’s the meaning of the name ‘Ogedengbe’? Is this name like some type of “ìnagijẹ”?

The Ekitiparapọ Army did not fight for this. Ijesa was never under Oyo. Nor did Ogedengbe live and die for dubious claims to be staked as throwback. Who even beats their chest over "Empire" in the 21st century? Empire in these times is a sad delusion. Embarrassing.

@onyinyechiii_ @theyoncetimes I personally don’t like the title “aṣọ ẹbí girls” (I prefer the term “ọ̀rẹ́ ìyàwó” [bride’s friends]) as they are simply bridesmaids which is a concept that exists in most cultures globally. You can always have bridesmaids and use your cultural term for maidens.

@theyoncetimes Oh okay I understand, and yes you’re right. I think “aso ebi” has become more mainstream, just like “owambe”. As an Igbo person, I remember telling my friends I wouldn’t be having “aso ebi girls” because I believe that term specifically belongs to the Yoruba culture.

How do I explain that beyond the name "aso-ebi", nothing else about that tradition is uniquely Yoruba?

That is their culture. Many non-Yorubas treat it as a trend, but in reality, Aso Ebi is a coordinated outfit worn by friends and family to show unity and support at events.

(restricting it to its original meaning - family cloth).

@O_belau @FakayodeGloria I remember it used to be called “Anko” coined from the English phrase “and co” for àléjò (guests), while if you belong to a group (ẹgbẹ́) it was Aṣọ Ẹgbẹ́.

@FakayodeGloria Overtime, aso-ebi has lost it’s contextual meaning. That they picked cloth for an event doesn’t mean it is aso-ebi(cloth/fabric for the family) of course for an event. But it can be used in today’s term as fabric for uniformity.

I tried to buy Yorùbá Òrìṣà domain names, Ọ̀rúnmìlà, Ògún, Ọbàtálá, etc. but I found out they have all been bought. Some are active websites with content, while others were bought just to be resold. Again, all the buyers are located in the USA. I don’t know when they were bought, but I think the Ìṣẹ̀ṣe/Òrìṣà community should have bought these names instead
