If you want to talk about Angel and her spouse, do it today and let’s move on. Meanwhile, a Nigerian Air Force strike ‘mistakenly’ bombed a market in Yobe State, killing over 100 civilians, including children. They said they were targeting Boko Haram.

@ae_olamide @theyoncetimes Honestly, I don’t even know, cause most of the time I hear “aso ebi girls”so I haven’t really heard anyone call it anything else.

@onyinyechiii_ @theyoncetimes I personally don’t like the title “aṣọ ẹbí girls” (I prefer the term “ọ̀rẹ́ ìyàwó” [bride’s friends]) as they are simply bridesmaids which is a concept that exists in most cultures globally. You can always have bridesmaids and use your cultural term for maidens.

@onyinyechiii_ will do choose theirs, and so on. I'm not saying brides & their families didn't sell specific fabrics to different factions of their friends & families, I'm just saying that whether or not the brides coordinated it, these different groups often showed up in their unique uniforms

@theyoncetimes This is exactly how my aunt explained it to me, that your people will choose to do it on their own, but nowadays brides have full control over it.

@onyinyechiii_ I feel you. Before weddings became heavily curated for social media, I don't think brides had total control over whether people wore uniforms to wedding or the fabrics. Your friends will choose their own, your mother's friends will coordinate, your paternal/maternal cousins...

@theyoncetimes Oh okay I understand, and yes you’re right. I think “aso ebi” has become more mainstream, just like “owambe”. As an Igbo person, I remember telling my friends I wouldn’t be having “aso ebi girls” because I believe that term specifically belongs to the Yoruba culture.

@onyinyechiii_ So, the culture of wearing uniforms at any ceremony (birthdays, weddings, namings —in some instances, festivals, women meetings) is not uniquely Yoruba. Beyond "andco" and "aso-ebi", some ethnic groups even have their own unique names for that practice.

RE: Lagos BBLs, Algorithms and Technological Beauty (Video Essay) 💋 This isn’t just about BBLs. It’s about how technology engineers beauty itself. The ‘Sachetisation of BBLs’: In the world of AI, algorithms, filters & deepfakes, the line between our physical body & our technological self is getting blurred - where we are now transitioning from looking human to homogeneous internet avatars… If you enjoyed my video essay Retweet, Bookmark, Comment and Share . People should beware of this account. He will message you that he would love to send you money, then later say his bank has issues and tell you he has a brother in Nigeria who has a phone store. He will ask if you want a phone from the store and tell you to send a picture of the kind of phone you wish to use. Once you pick a phone, he will say the phone you picked is too expensive and ask what kind of phone you currently use. He will then tell you the resale value of your phone and the new phone, and offer to add the remaining money if you swap your current phone for the new one.

I want to call the attention of people who like freebies to an account on this Twitter. The account will enter your DM saying they want to give you money, then they will say they don’t have cash and offer to buy you something else. Let me go and get the receipt.
