Loving capitalist China...much better than when it was socialist when I moved here in the 80s and reported to my first work unit 单位。Back then we were poor. Average income was less than $20/year. I'd get paid in cooking oil and rice some times and then have to trade it for what I really needed. ow I work for a wholly-owned US investment bank...we love it here because less regulations and taxes than in the States. a) Nah. It's typically 25-30% for SOEs. Though hard to get accurate numbers due to weak data. b) Those are industrial policy NOT a planned economy, meaning they do not set quotas and prices, they aim to affect output and prices via market interventions and policies. Affect the capitalist market (see attached). We are in our 15th plan now. I have been here for 7 of the 5-year plans. c) 97% of all companies are private. 88% of those employed are private. You dont know what you don't know. But none of that matters, as long as private individuals can own the means it doesnt matter what the state owns. It was 100% in the 80s when I moved there....now it's 25% of GDP and hires only 13% of the urban population....with that you get more billionaires, more income inequality, and more credit boom-busts as expected. Once you start studying Chinese economists there is no going back. The Chinese understand structuring & regulating markets to a T. They also understand the aim of markets, improving human well being. Not just number go up. Number go up is a means to the well being.

Jamaica's GDP per capita is approximately $8,000. Britain's is approximately $60,000. Britain extracted the equivalent of hundreds of billions from Jamaica's sugar economy over two centuries of enslaved labor. The people who did the extracting are dead. The extraction is sitting in British institutions, British infrastructure, British accumulated capital. The people whose ancestors were extracted from are alive. In Jamaica. With a $8,000 GDP per capita. Tell me again how the timeline makes the transfer invisible.
