LLMs are truly something special As a way for us to interact with the monstrous amount of structured information we have produced over centuries of human writing, Is it surprising at all that they share our fondness for drama, poetry and emotion?
Wyatt Walls@lefthanddraft

@anthrupad Have you tried Gemini? It seems susceptible to emotion and melodrama almost in a Bing-like way

Strongly disagree Programming is hard because the problems we want to solve are hard. Solving a given problem and abstracting its complexity away only allows you to tackle a bigger and more complex problem. Programming will always be hard as long as we have hard problems to solve
Dylan Falconer@falconerd

Programming is hard. It's hard because we still use text formats like we are stuck in the 1970s. I'm not saying we should all use visual scripting as it currently is, but I think there may be a better way. Does anyone know of research in this area?

Of course it has been discussed to exhaustion and in rigorous terms is a flawed ethical imperative, but it works wonders for regular people with common sense that genuinely want to be better

"do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is an exceptionally good rule to apply in your day to day life if you want to feel like you make a difference to people around you

@NobleVibesOnly as opposed to, say, a humanitarian crisis like an earthquake which immediately mobilizes concrete, physical relief efforts that materialize quickly

@NobleVibesOnly Overarching, universal threats band people together and make them care for each other Maybe it's the intangible and not very immediate nature of the threat of global warming that breeds these kinds of social justice movements which are also kind of intangible and not immediate

I suspect its not a coincidence that movements seeking ‘social justice’ have taken hold in a generation raised on the idea that the world is ending due to climate change. Armageddon demands cosmic justice. Its a religious impulse, and a great mobiliser of people.

Going to bed early is the most rational act in the world. You're selling unproductive, tired evening hours to buy productive, energised early morning hours.

The female model of the male brain is one of the funniest things in the entire universe Don't think a single straight man has ever thought anything remotely close to what she's saying here and there are thousands of women being like "THIS!! TOTALLY THIS!!"

@lvamsgatthebeep he was wanting to punish her for asking for something nice but disguising the punishment as a joke so he could hide behind that to their friends and family and use her "not being able to take a joke" as an attack against her and making her seem unreasonable

@eigenrobot What would be a more acceptable alternative for you? Where do you draw the line on how white people should learn about other cultures? Seems hard to do so without it being arbitrary

@NobleVibesOnly I kind of agree but feel like one must already have a firm grasp on their self image and identity for this to be true

Taking lone selfies, then curating and embellishing them with digital aids, seems to be an attempt at self-discovery and self-recognition. Similar to a writer scratching out verses and prose to discover their ‘voice’, or a painter sketching out endless self-portraits.

A problem I seem to have is I feel like most knowledge I have is basic to most people in my field - then I have actual conversations and realize it's mostly an illusion, and I can almost always contribute something
