A good morning between Cley and Weybourne, with 31 added to the year list. Best birds were Long-tailed Duck, Velvet Scoters, Red-throated Divers, Golden and Grey Plovers. Hundreds of geese, but no rarities. Unexpected tick was 2 male Blackcaps on my Mums feeder😮 @NWTCleyCentre

@pacunliffe Happy New year Phil. No idea what my year list was but my brother and I got 115 in our local Wybunbury patch. 114 the previous year

Just checked my birding year list for last year and it was a reasonable 172. I've been kiboshed by a back problem that has meant I've had to rely on people carrying my scope for any distance. Highlights for the year included in the following tweets.

On the first day of "Old Gits Birding Norfolk 2024" with my brother acting as packhorse carrying my scope plus 2 pals. We visited Holkham NNR and Warham. We had a raptor fest with marsh, hen and pallid harriers, kestrel, sparrowhawk, merlin, red kite, buzzard and peregrine.

See repost below from @KevinLivesey1 of birds at Southport Beach yesterday I was so pleased soon after arriving there that Snow Bunting had just been found by another birder/photographer and then locating 6 Twite 10 minutes later was a real bonus! Missed the Brent Goose though!

@MarburyBirds I think that sums it up what a lot of us feel about going birding - “walking quietly in the countryside”

@pacunliffe @AngBirdNews I’ve seen this kind of thing before but inland at our local pool. We had hundreds of fry all crammed into a corner of the pool. We asked fishermen but they couldn’t explain it. I’m sure somebody could?

@AngBirdNews I was in Moelfre on Monday and saw a crow eating a fish up near the wool shop. I then saw a lot of little fish stranded in the sea weed being slowly picked off by gulls and crows. I've not seen this before.

@sophiedorman33 @AngBirdNews Hi Sophie Park up in the normal reserve spot and walk about half way along the path towards the bridge. Not sure exactly where they are roosting but keep the A55 to your back and you’ll see them. I saw them 4.30 onwards 😀

Dulas Estuary was a lot quieter last night possibly due to a family of 4 plus 9 dogs alongside the flow of water. Only two birds to add from my last visit were 2 C snipe and a Golden Plover @AngBirdNews

Plus - whilst at Dulas I’d put my Collins on the roof. You know what comes next … drove off like a daft egg. It was my car copy but still. Ah well @AngBirdNews

Sandbach Flashes p.m. - YB Warb missed along side lane by 20 mins! Searched among the roving mixed flock of Long-tailed, Great & Blue Tit, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Treecreeper but neither sight nor sound! Otherwise GWE & Curlew among the regulars. @CAWOSBirding @FlashesSandbach
