Toe-poked Arsenal opinion served semi-fresh. Currently exiled in 'merica.

@janhopi It's an absolute sickness. The punditocracy absolutely frothing about us for <checks notes> playing effective football and looking like we might win something for once.

very weird commentary on TalkSport because they keep talking about Arsenal for some reason, a team who is not playing and is not even competing with Bournemouth or Man United. like three separate digs. even Pardew on co-comms was baffled about why he was being asked about it.

V cool that you can watch the women’s team’s game streaming live on the new @arsenal app. This is not an #ad but feel free to throw me a tenner Mr Josh.

@julio_baps Yeah, that makes sense. I’ve definitely seen some northern fans still favour city though, but you’re probably right about the split.

@arse2mouse A big, big differentiator between Utd fans from Manchester and 'Surrey/London reds'. The former, in my friendship group at least, are begrudgingly backing Arsenal to at least take City fans down a peg. The latter live down here and see Arsenal as their 'local' rivals.

IMO generally speaking it’s the other big clubs that tend to be okay with City winning because the historical rivalry isn’t there, and you can just blame the money or the presence of Pep. I usually wanted City to win over Liverpool for example, even though it liked Klopp.

For reasons I can't quite understand, Arsenal have gone from being very popular with neutrals to being, well, rather unpopular. I actually think much of this makes sense.

@arse2mouse I also just think there’s an element of fans not seeing Arsenal as a threat to win anything major for 2 decades and now having a hard time coming to grips with it so they’re lashing out. It was always easy to criticize Arsenal for being “soft”, but those days are gone.

But ultimately it’s whatever. Root for and hate whoever you want innit. There are no rules.

Where it gets a little odd to me now is with Utd fans. They’re you’re supposed local rivals and have clowned you for a while. Odd to back them in anything. Likewise, Pep’s side - don’t forget the charges btw - stopped LFC winning multiple titles, so weird to root for them now.

@Alexlewicki @arse2mouse Yep same. I still think he’s a cheque book manager and is stained with 115 charges cheating but ultimately he seems like an ok dude.

Of all the mangers we’ve had a rivalry with, I really don’t mind Pep at all. He’s obviously the goat, often talks sense, and doesn’t get baited by bullshit like this. Yes it sucked to lose titles to them by I just don’t feel the enmity of a Jose or (worse) Fergie.
City Report@cityreport_

Pep Guardiola responding to @JamieJackson___ probing him about a ‘fallout’ with Mikel Arteta and Arsenal using ‘dark arts’: “If you want to ask a question to try to create some conflict between me and Mikel or Arsenal, I am old enough not to do that. You are how many times here, did I ever use the words ‘dark arts’ about Arsenal? Did you listen to me? You think [they use dark arts?] Go to London and attend Mikel Arteta’s press conference and ask him about that…”

@arse2mouse Yeah, he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Also have a soft spot for his brooding, genius persona for some reason.

@ashton_dan Almost every argument against our approach to set plays falls apart if you try to imagine it being made against any other top club. I mean, we were laughed at for complaining about a player getting elbowed straight in the face from a scoring corner.

@arse2mouse Once he makes the (should be obvious) point that if you get a corner you have to take it, you do have to wonder what the usual pundits want to happen. Should you actively try NOT to score from the corner?

Actually remarkable sense spoken by Kyle Walker about our set pieces. Mad that that seems so unusual currently. youtube.com/shorts/fZUqq7B…

@arse2mouse Difference between people that actively play the game vs people that only play in their dreams and people that haven’t kicked a ball in over a decade.

@timstillman_ Yeah, defenders do seem to adapt more easily. We're on a pretty wild run of hits with White, Mosquera, Gabriel, Cala, Saliba, etc, etc. Tomy was good before the injuries too.

Eze and Gyokeres so much more connected to the team now. No longer passengers waiting for a shot or a moment but both becoming much more a part of how the team builds attacks.
