Games I Beat in 2026 Game 1: Final Fantasy. Super charming and basic. Generic enemies mixed with future series staples. Good to see where it came from. Went in blind, made many mistakes. Chaos, especially in the Pixel Remaster, was one of the worst, hardest endgame bosses I've fought. However, it was one of the most satisfying. Overall: B+

I don’t know how many people remember that Halo was a big deal before the Xbox. The game was poised as the savior of gaming on the Mac and Steve Jobs was positioning it as the killer app for the Power Mac (with a PC port). When MS blindsided Apple and bought Bungie to secure Halo as an exclusive, Steve Jobs was so furious that Ballmer had to personally call him to assure him MS would still support Mac (but no Halo). That situation is why Jobs got Carmack to debut Doom 3 at MacWorld.

@ManaByte Difference i feel is Bungies biggest success's come from being guided by a big publisher i.e Halo (Microsoft) and Destiny (Activision). And the moment they weren't under a guided umbrella they started struggling.

Xbox is going to see a restructure, that’s for sure. It’s not going to be a happy day in July, but it doesn’t mean death. A lot of money was spent, and many underperforming studios will be spun off, closed, or absorbed into other studios as support. As a sports fan, I understand the business side. As a human, it just sucks because it’s never fun to lose your job and security especially since my wife lost hers last year, and I know the stress it brings.

People in the chat are saying it’s a bother burger, but no, it isn’t. Big changes are still coming at Xbox, especially in the first-party lineup. Some studios will be safe while others are trying right now to save themselves, but we don’t know to what degree. Most likely something is going to happen at the three mentioned studios, and they might survive on their own (Double Fine being one). However, we might see cuts at Obsidian, and maybe Turn 10 gets absorbed into another studio like Playground purely for Forza. Not to mention ABK and Bethesda might also see changes, and God only knows about Rare. Even if I don’t like Jason, this is his forte. So just wait sadly for July when the real bad news drops.

You know, I don’t understand this weird narrative that Xbox went for “cheap” wins. Fixing the easy-to-fix complaints from people on your platform is somehow a bad thing? I’ve been on this app for many years and listen to gaming news and podcasts all the time. They say they need to push out Fallout and Elder Scrolls. They say game budgets need to be reduced. They say Xbox should bring back exclusive content because it matters. They say Xbox makes too many AA-level games and needs more AAA bangers. Most of this was before COVID, but even after, the gaming industry as a whole was called overblown. All I’m really trying to say is a lot of you annoy me with the double speak of what you want versus what you think will get you engagement, and it makes a lot of you unhappy.

I think the reality is that Bungie could have kept Destiny going and also invested in Marathon. Blizzard has shown you can do this. The issue is Blizzard struck at the beginning with something like Overwatch, and Bungie struck at the tail end of the cycle. Bungie has kind of shown us that once they left ABK’s deal, they didn’t know how to manage the studio anymore. The Sony sale was an act of desperation to keep their employees around, and if rumors were true, Sony has basically canceled almost all their live service plans. Bungie’s value dropped heavily with current leadership because they were brought in to help with this plan. It still sucks all these layoffs need to happen, I’ve been saying it for years but that doesn’t mean I’m happy about it. I hope a lot of the impacted people find quick work elsewhere or can move to other studios within these major companies.

@backlogcarl Yea, they did it to themselves. Like, I love Marathon, but I think they overestimated the populatiry of it - I am convinced big budget multiplayer shooter games, excluding COD are basically not gonna be successful

I was thinking last week, that I would be interested in getting an Xbox series X or the next Xbox if they keep exclusive games and still invest in physical games, but after yesterdays news I’m not sure anymore. Closing studios and laying off developers is not what I support

Asha Sharma and Matt Booty say they want players to trust Xbox again and invest in the platform’s future. Then Xbox puts Senua in front of millions of viewers at its biggest event of the year, and days later reports emerge that Ninja Theory could be shut down. 🤦🏻‍♂️ If those reports are true, they’ve already created the exact problem they’re supposed to be fixing. Uncertainty about the hardware strategy. Uncertainty about exclusives. Uncertainty about which studios are actually safe. Uncertainty about what Xbox will even look like five years from now. Trust isn’t rebuilt through interviews or promises. It’s rebuilt through actions that give players confidence in the platform’s direction. And if one of the first major decisions under Asha Sharma and Matt Booty’s leadership is to showcase a game while the future of the studio behind it is reportedly in question, then they’ve already given players another reason to doubt instead of believe. The irony is that they’re asking people to invest in Xbox’s future while making that future feel more uncertain than ever. If this is the start of Xbox’s new era, they’ve already managed to damage its credibility before it even began.

It's very surprising they worked with her because Anita was exposed long ago as saying on video in college that she never played video games and then made a snide remark about how gross and violent they are. She then worked with the media to craft her new image: Lifelong gamer girl who just happened to notice sexism in all the games she loved. She isn't an authority on anything and Schafer saying "blind spots we didn't even know were there" shows she is a glorified ghost hunter finding the hidden demons you can't see. Anita is a charlatan banking on liberal guilt in gaming. Nothing more. Farewell, Double Fine. You were awesome until you weren't. I enjoyed many of your games Pre-Anita.
