Ukrainians have endured another difficult winter, with Russia targeting energy infrastructure across the country. In Kyiv today, we engaged with our international partners on supporting Ukraine. We must address urgent energy needs & start preparations for next winter. ⚡️🇺🇦

Intervista al commissario all’energia Dan Jorgensen: “Vogliamo assicurarci che gli stati membri possano proteggere i cittadini vulnerabili e colpiti molto duramente dai prezzi elevati, ma nel lungo periodo vogliamo eliminare la dipendenza dei combustibili fossili. Già perché questa non è una vera e propria crisi energetica, ma una crisi dei combustibili che ci dimostra quanto siamo vulnerabili in caso di shock geopolitici come quelli del Medio Oriente”. “Al momento c'è una crisi dei prezzi, non dell'approvvigionamento, ma temiamo che possa svilupparsi, in particolare per il jet fuel. La situazione potrebbe peggiorare, non possiamo escluderlo”. “Abbiamo vietato l'importazione di gas dalla Russia, e questo è un divieto che rimarrà. La Russia ha già usato l'energia come arma contro di noi e sarebbe un errore metterci di nuovo in quella situazione. Anche se capisco che questa è una crisi difficile e non trascuro le conseguenze negative, sarebbe un grande errore risolvere questo problema facendo un errore ancora maggiore, che sarebbe quello di ricominciare a importare gas russo”.

In light of the geopolitical situation, President @vonderleyen has decided to dedicate Monday's College meeting to discuss the situation in the Middle East and its broader impact on Europe. The College will take stock of the Commission's current and upcoming actions.
