With tariffs in the news it’s a good time to remind people that the Boston Tea Party was actually a protest against the government *reducing* tariffs on imported tea which made the smugglers’ black market tea no longer competitive with the legit tea from the East India Company.

Elon should turn Starbase or somewhere else into an American Shenzhen. If he can co-run the country he's qualified to start a special economic zone city state. So many people would move to this Special Acceleration Zone

Capitalism is uneven distribution of wealth, socialism is even distribution of poverty. Why are young people so fascinated by socialism? Because they have not experienced socialist horror by themselves?

And that damage is already done. Trump has shown himself to be ill-advised and impulsive. Even if he repealed all the tariffs tomorrow, businesses would still have to worry about what he might do next, and be correspondingly conservative about plans for future expansion.

The government shouldn't be dictating our fixture water flow or lightbulb choices. This is overregulation. In California, you can't: - Use a showerhead over 1.8 gallons per minute - Buy incandescent bulbs - Buy gas cans without a spill-prone vapor recovery nozzles - Build a home without 6+ months of permit delays This isn't sustainability. It's bureaucratic theater.
