@verifiedjeff @LincolnRestler no, if you base laws on fundamental principles then they aren’t arbitrary. your issue is you don’t have any principles… you obviously don’t think everything is arbitrary that’s insane, otherwise how would laws work??? you think they’re random? i think you’re cooked ngl 🙏

@benbones99 @LincolnRestler Isn’t everything “arbitrary” to some degree or another? Like why not $5 for the subway instead of $3? The number has been set. Not by me, but that’s the number. So if I can ride the subway from Coney Island to Wakefield for $3, why shouldn’t a Citibike ride cost the same? 🙏

A Citi Bike ride shouldn’t cost a penny more than a subway or bus ride. We’ve got a bill to cap e-bike fees at $3 and end Citi Bike-flation.

@verifiedjeff @LincolnRestler the city never established the base version of anything. they established the cost of their train, it’s a completely different system to citi bikes… why would you think it makes sense to ignore the whole supply chain and then step in at the consumer cost? not remotely logical

@verifiedjeff @LincolnRestler there’s no reason it should be “consistent”. markets are dynamic, the idea that we should have fixed prices is just something you’ve arbitrarily decided, not based on any fundamental principle. prices are reflections of underlying mechanism, you don’t change them when you fix $

@benbones99 @LincolnRestler Because if the trains & buses cost $3, that should be the price of “public transit” in NYC. If Citibike is part of the public transit system, it should be aligned & consistent with the baseline price. Hence, my philosophic agreement. 🙏

@LincolnRestler Philosophically, I agree with this… but Citibank isn’t a government municipality; they’re a for-profit banking company (Bank is in the name). If they’re overcharging, the free market should handle that (people won’t ride & they’ll have to lower the cost). 🙏

Jensen calls Dwarkesh's AI comparison to North Korean nukes lunacy Calls the enriched uranium comparison lousy "Dario had this quote where he said, it's like Boeing bragging that we're selling North Korea nukes, but the missile casings are made by Boeing. And that's somehow enabling the U.S. technology stack. Like fundamentally, you're giving them this capability." "Comparing AI to anything that you just mentioned is lunacy." "But AI is similar to enriched uranium, right? And then it can have positive uses. It can have negative uses. We still don't want to send enriched uranium to other countries." "Who's sending enriched uranium?" "The analogy is enriched uranium." "Because it's a lousy analogy. It's an illogical analogy." "But if that compute can run a model that can do zero-day exploits against all American software, how is that not a weapon?" "First of all, the way to solve that problem is to have dialogues with the researchers, the dialogues with China, and dialogues with other countries to make sure that people don't use technology in that way. That's a dialogue that has to happen. Okay. Number one. Number two, we also need to make sure the United States is ahead. Everything that Vera Rubin, Blackwell is available in the United States in abundance. Mounds of it, obviously, our results would show it. Abundance, tons of it, tons of it. The amount of computing we have is great. We have amazing AI researchers here. It's great. We ought to stay ahead. However, we also have to recognize that AI is not just a model, that AI is a five-layer cake, that AI industry matters across every single layer. And we want United States to win at every single layer, including the chip layer. And conceding the entire market is not going to allow United States to win the technology race long-term in the chip layer, in the computing stack. That is just a fact."
