It's critically important for operators and developers to have the same meaning for technical terms, but those terms are added, changed, or dropped over time. Occasional updates to the "DNS Terminology" BCPs help everyone to keep up.

@HopliteJones @GardeningDuties @PatriotNz2022 Diversity in software is indeed a good thing. And the 13 root letters a-m.root-servers.net are operated by 12 different organisations. Also for the robustness of the DNS root server system.

@GardeningDuties @PatriotNz2022 Apparently they no longer use the same software on each server. They use BIND9, NSD and Knot DNS just to mitigate this risk.

One of the reasons I'm considering Starlink as I think in the next year that internet may go down. What do you think?
