@LeonardSeeds Here in SE Iowa it averages over the long term approximately what the farm would be cash rented for. Just out of curiousity what % of gross income does cash rent typically equate to down there?

@blakearnold_ That is borderline insanity. Farming is a tough business but that’s a huge lose for the tenant and win for the landlord situation. Not sustainable in my area.

Topic of crop shares rarely is talked about. How many run a crop share where the landlord pays zero expenses. If so what percentage do they receive? Heard a little of that going around but to me a landlord that doesn’t want to share in any expenses needs to just cash rent.

I hope I’m wrong on this but I don’t see this being beneficial long term. Are 22 locations needed to provide “world class support” when we’re less than an hour from Deere world headquarters? I’d imagine all that changes is just more hoops to jump through

@_TheMizzouTiger We would struggle with corn residue next spring if we didn’t touch it and speed up the breakdown process. We’ll actually seed a cover crop on this farm in the next few days and plant our soybeans directly into the cover. Makes a really nice seed bed.

@FarmrHuntr We’re just using a single species, usually cereal rye. It won’t disturb much. We do VT some cornstalks prior to running the seeder in higher residue areas, could go without but we like the seed bed it creates to plant green

Anybody using a @UnverferthMfg rolling harrow soil conditioner for cover crop seeding or another comparable unit? Any feedback or recommendations? Is there a unit out there that also has heavy duty baskets that would work for crimping in spring?

@jasonlcvcmn What cover crop did you have out and how long prior to planting was it terminated? What strip till setup was run?

Conventional tillage, fall strips with cover crops, fall strips only all planted on April 25th.
