inquirer.com/phillies/mlb-t… It’s clear what the Phillies need at the trade deadline. Do they have the prospect capital to get it? Focusing on a depleted farm system. Weekend baseball reading from @PhillyInquirer ⤵️

🚨 BREAKING: House passes bill to merge U.S. and Israeli militaries. Nearly every Democrat voted no.

Most gangster shit I’ve seen all year.

If you're too young to remember you can just look it up.

They made fun of this image so much because of her Botox, and then you watch the movie and it's one of her best acting scenes.

Also, I don't really buy the standard interpretations of the research on deterrance. We have an extremely inconsistent, soft criminal justice system. I'm not at all surprised that low-IQ criminals who are constantly fed rhetoric about how nothing is their fault and cops are bad and racist, and who have been arrested 18 times before they're 25 and never faced any real punishment conclude that the system has no teeth. That's the context in which we have trouble detterring crime. I'm really quite sure that if you started, say, removing limbs in the town square shortly after arrest that you'd be able to make an impression. We do everything we can to make deterrence ineffective and then conclude that nothing functions as a deterrent.

Execution permanently incapacitates that criminal, and would be much cheaper than life in prison if not for all the legal obstacles your side put in its path. If someone commits, for example, murder-rape, the taxpayer shouldn’t feed them for life.

A genuine question for those defending every casting decision in The Odyssey… If someone adapted Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and completely reimagined the nationality, appearance, or traditional portrayal of several iconic characters… Would you still say: “The best actor should always get the role.” Or would you suddenly start talking about staying faithful to Shakespeare? That’s why this debate fascinates me. Should we judge every classic by the same standard… Or do we only defend creative freedom when it’s our favorite director
