I'm not at all surprised that low-IQ criminals who are constantly fed rhetoric about how nothing is their fault and cops are bad and racist, and who have been arrested 18 times before they're 25 and never faced any real punishment conclude that the system has no teeth. That's the context in which we have trouble detterring crime. I'm really quite sure that if you started, say, removing limbs in the town square shortly after arrest that you'd be able to make an impression. We do everything we can to make deterrence ineffective and then conclude that nothing functions as a deterrent.

Execution permanently incapacitates that criminal, and would be much cheaper than life in prison if not for all the legal obstacles your side put in its path. If someone commits, for example, murder-rape, the taxpayer shouldn’t feed them for life.
