For those who are interested: We'll have to wait another two weeks for the US EXIM Bank board's "Final Approval" decision on the $2.7B loan to help build Perpetua Resources' Stibnite gold/antimony project. Rescheduled from May 7 to May 21 due to an administrative decision.

@JuliaLaRoche hosted @TruthGundlach who outlined 3 paths amid the US's exploding unchecked debt: 1st was fiscal discipline which he acknowledged was impossible since politicians protect power, perks & reelection above all else. Gundlach warned that the only other alternatives are a soft default on Treasuries or savage inflation/debasement ahead. The bottom line is investors have to focus on return of principle, not return on principle. JG "The way we're financing the gov't with $2T of deficits is completely untenable. If something is untenable, it has to stop. And this has to stop." youtu.be/d8sPQom4cnc?si…

In a confidential memo, LA's City Attorney warned city leaders against funding an eviction defense provider that has previously sued the city. But city council just voted to OK the contract. My @LAist story looks at why this dispute matters for renters: laist.com/news/housing-h…

With gold up another $90 this morning to $5,265, I am again reminded of the great Richard Russell quote: "There's no fever like gold fever." A year ago, (in a tweet) I added a word to it: "There's no fever like Chinese gold fever." This is exemplified by this morning's Bloomberg story: "China’s Precious Metals Frenzy Sparks Protest as Risks Grow." Also, early last year I wrote a note to myself (which I kept): "Most people have no idea how to value gold, which is why in a buying panic it could go stupidly higher." Most of us know all the valid reasons why gold (and other precious metals) are on such a romp (global uncertainties, central banks buying, fears of dollar debasement, etc.), but don't underestimate the Chinese and stupidity factors too. Exciting, but also dangerous. finance.yahoo.com/news/chinese-s…

BREAKING: Jerome Powell issues a DEFIANT message to Trump after his DOJ criminally indicted him. Powell rightly says that this is a politically motivated indictment because he refused to bend the knee to Trump. Retweet to stand with Chairman Powell!

Soybean farmer: I get up one morning, I turn the news on and we gave $20 billion of taxpayer money to Argentina, my competition. And then the Chinese buy $12 or $14 billion worth of soybeans from the Argentinians.

Global EV sales are up 27% in 2025. It’s just called capitalism. Markets reward what’s cheaper, faster, and better. Electrification will continue irrespective of any one nation’s policies.

Today marks 160 years since enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom – an announcement came more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. This moment marked the beginning of our nation’s long and ongoing journey to end slavery. As we celebrate Juneteenth today, we are reminded that progress is not passive. It demands a daily commitment to dismantling systemic racism, confronting injustice, and working together, with purpose to address deep-rooted inequalities. I invite you join our 2nd District Racial Justice Learning Exchange, where - through community dialogue and connection - we are working to end harmful stereotypes, implicit bias, and systemic racism. To learn more and attend one of our monthly events, visit: mitchell.lacounty.gov/racialjustice/ To learn more about Juneteenth, please visit: lacountylibrary.org/juneteenth-boo…

@AngelenoInsight 58% goes to temporary housing and emergency shelter. The rest is…software + salaries. CES is a federal requirement that takes 26% of the budget but only 6% of funding is federal so they should increase their contribution to cover it. (Housing is hardware) @LAist @LAHomeless

This parking lot could have been 120 affordable homes, plus shops, plus even more public parking spots than before. Instead, the City is paying to keep it a parking lot. Learn more: latimes.com/opinion/story/…

The City of LA is SPENDING money (during a budget crisis) to STOP Venice Dell - an affordable housing project that the public wants, the City desperately needs, & that 👏 WAS 👏 ALREADY 👏 APPROVED 👏 by the City & the State. (Even a federal Judge spoke up about it 👨‍⚖️)
